Recap Game 2
It was a close game between the Royals and Athletics. The final score was 2-1 in the Athletics favor. Both starting pitchers played exceptionally well. And it was a pitchers duel until the end. Jorge Lopez pitched 6 innings of two run ball. Brett Anderson pitched 5 innings of one run ball. From there it was a battle of the bullpens. A Matt Olson homer, and Seth Brown double sealed the victory for the Athletics in the 7th inning. The series is tied at one, and the rubber match is set for today.
Kansas City Royals
Jorge Lopez pitched very well against a solid Oakland offense. The pitching line was: 6.0 innings, 4 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 SO. He's struggled this year, but he trimmed his ERA below six. Today, Danny Duffy will pitch. He is also having a down year (4,55 ERA) after some solid season in 2016 and 2017.
The Royals offense had more hits than the Athletics, but couldn't get many players in scoring position. They were 1-4 with RISP. The only run scored was on a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning. The offense will need to provide more runs by getting more base-runners if they want to play spoiler for the A's postseason chances.
The A's pitching held it down. From starter Brett Anderson (5.0 innings, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 SO) to the bullpen (4.0 innings, H, 6 SO), it was an excellent showing by the A's pitching staff. Veteran Homer Bailey will pitch in the rubber match. Bailey has 3.54 ERA in his last seven starts. He aims to pitch well to give the A's a more comfortable lead in the Wild Card standings.
