Game 1 Recap

Kansas City played the role of a spoiler in the first game against Oakland. The Royals won a tight 6-5 game over the playoff hopeful Oakland Athletics. Oakland still holds a narrow one game lead for the 1st Wild Card spot as the Rays and Indians are right behind them. For the Royals, this was an impressive win on the road facing a good team.

In the second game of this series, the Athletics will need to get it together in order to make the most of facing a below average team. The pitching matchup for tonight is 26-year old Jorge Lopez for the Royals. And for the home team, its veteran LHP Brett Anderson.

Kansas City Royals

The Royals first three hitters in the lineup went 7-15, 5 R, 3 RBI, 2 2B, HR. Whit Merrifield, Adalberto Mondesi, and Jorge Soler sparked the offense. Additionally, Brett Phillips hit a pivotal game-tying home run in the 9th to tie the game at five. Soler, 27, is an enjoying a stellar breakout season. He is one of the most underrated players in the game. His stats speak for themselves this season as he has 45 HR, 109 RBI with a .258 AVG. He has a chance to win the home run crown.
