LA Dodgers vs Boston Red Sox FREE MLB Pick, Prediction and Odds
The Boston Red Sox (108-54) host the LA Dodgers (92-71) in Game 1 of the 2018 World Series. The Red Sox are making their first World Series appearance since they won in 2013 and the Dodgers are in the World Series for the second straight year. Last year the Dodgers lost to the Astros in 7 games.
The Dodgers beat the Brewers in an exciting 7 game series, where they won Game 7, 5-1 in Milwaukee, to advance to the World Series. The Dodgers have the talent and the experience to put up an epic battle with the Red Sox.
LA is expected to send Clayton Kershaw to the mound to start Game 1, after closing out Game 7 a few days ago. Only the Dodgers know their plans, but Kershaw was seen throwing a bullpen session this weekend in Boston. If Kershaw doesn’t pitch, Rich Hill is next in line for the start. Either way the Dodgers are sending out a tough lefty to face the Red Sox potent lineup. Last series the Dodger bullpen, led by closer Kenley Jansen, put up a stellar 1.45 ERA against the Brewers. However, if you watched the World Series last year, the bullpen was the downfall of the Dodgers. Game 2 and 5 could have went the Dodgers way last year if the bullpen stepped up more.
The Dodgers lineup is stacked 1-9 and will be tough all series long. In the regular season the Dodgers led to NL in home runs and slugging, and were 3rd in on base percentage. This post season they have not been hitting as well, but are still towards the top of postseason teams in playoff on base percentage. Their bats heated up in Game 7 hitting 3 homeruns accounting for all their runs. Yasiel Puig has been red hot this postseason and stars like NLCS MVP Cody Bellinger and Manny Machado stepped up when needed.
The Red Sox took care of business in the American League with the best record in baseball during the regular season. They lost 1 game each to the New York Yankees and Houston Astros, cruising to the World Series.
AL CY candidate, Chris Sale is on the bump for Game 1 against the Dodgers. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in a start this postseason, pitching a total of 10.1 innings allowing 4 runs. Sale has been known to regress late in the season, but he only pitched 158 innings this regular season because of injury. This seems to have helped him later in the year, allowing him to remain fresh for the playoffs. The Red Sox bullpen has been shaky due to the inconsistent play of their closer, Craig Kimbrel. However, when they needed it, Kimbrel stepped up in a big way in Game 5 against Houston.
The Red Sox lineup is arguably the best in baseball. They have two AL MVP candidates in Mookie Betts and JD Martinez. Martinez has been the best hitter in baseball since the Sox acquired him from the Tigers a year and a half ago. They have power, contact and speed to make them an extremely dangerous lineup who put runs up in a hurry. Their lineup is deep and versatile and can plug in tough righties against Kershaw or Hill.

Although two of the best pitchers will be on the mound for game 1 of the World Series, both teams have incredible offenses. This creates a large dilemma when the over/under is low at 7.5. However, the pick to make on game 1 is the over because both pitchers have histories of being shaky late in the year and both offenses have played well thus far.
