The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the New York Mets on Friday night in the opening game of a 3-game series at Citi Field.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a solid season thus far, sitting 2.5 games out of first place in the NL West with a 38-35 record. They have been excellent in recent games, going 12-5 in the month of June. A big reason for LA’s recent success has been their pitching. The Dodgers have given up 5 or fewer runs in each of their past 11 games. Taking the hill tonight will be Alex Wood, who has had an inconsistent season with a 2-5 record to go with a 4.22 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He is most recently coming off one of his better starts however, in which he gave up just 1 earned run across 5.2 innings in a win against the Giants. Wood will do his best to carry that momentum into tonight’s start against the Mets. On the offensive side of the ball, Matt Kemp has had a resurgent year in his return to the Dodgers, batting .322 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI. Max Muncy has also been swinging a hot bat recently, hitting 4 homers in the last 2 weeks. He will try to keep crushing the ball tonight to back up Alex Wood and help get his team a win.

The New York Mets have been a bit of a disappointment this season, owning a 31-41 record, just 3.5 games ahead of the worst record in the National League. They have had an especially rough June so far, winning just 4 of 18 games. A big reason for the slump has been a lack of hitting. Brandon Nimmo has been playing great baseball, batting .309 with 10 home runs in the last month, but nobody else in the lineup is batting over .286 in that time. Michael Conforto and Asdrubal Cabrera seem to be breaking out of their slumps, batting .346 and .321, respectively, in the last week. Hopefully this will lead to better run support for their pitchers. Zack Wheeler will be on the mound for New York tonight, and he has not recorded a win since April 29th, despite pitching fairly well for the most part. Overall, Wheeler has been pedestrian this season, sporting a 2-5 record with a 4.82 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. However, he has shown some improvement, giving up 2 or fewer earned runs in 3 of his last 4 starts. Wheeler will look to silence the Dodgers’ offense tonight, something he was unable to do last season when he gave up 7 earned runs in just 2 innings.

Free MLB Prediction New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of baseball’s hottest teams in the month of June, while the New York Mets have been one of the coldest teams this month. Both teams have pitched well of late, however the Dodgers offense has been playing much better than that of the Mets. Tonight, I believe Alex Wood holds the advantage over Zack Wheeler on the mound. He has been a slightly better pitcher this season, and will be facing a struggling offense in the Mets. For that reason, the Los Angeles Dodgers will come out on top in the series opener tonight. I believe the total score will be over 8.
