Tonight, will be game two of this series between the Marlins and Braves in Atlanta. The Braves once again come in as heavy favorites to win, after a 5-1 victory yesterday. The Marlins ended up with more hits in the game, but they were all for nothing. Freddie Freeman had other plans, and homered twice, driving in four runs. The Braves are 8-3 overall in their games against the Marlins this season.

Miami is hoping to get more out of their starter in this game than they did in the last. Elieser Hernandez only threw 68 pitches because of a right middle finger blister. He was pulled after having given up 3 hits for 1 run through 4 innings. Caleb Smith will be starting tonight’s game, with a record of 8-6, an ERA of 3.63, and a WHIP of 1.09. After suffering an injury in June, his numbers have not been as consistent. For comparison, he posted a monthly low ERA of 2.17 in April and is currently pitching towards a monthly high ERA of 4.91 so far in August. He’s given up 4 home runs in his last 3 starts. Apart from his forgettable HR9 rate, the rest of his statistics are well above league average. If he can learn to limit the long ball, he’ll become a very good pitcher for the Marlins.
