The Mets put on quite the show yesterday in their doubleheader against the Miami Marlins. In the first game, they put up six runs in the first five innings and coasted back to .500 for the first time since May. Game two was very different, as they gave up an early lead but fought back with three homers in the 7th to take their fourth straight from Miami. The two teams will battle again Tuesday night as the Marlins look to avoid their second straight sweep.

Miami Drops Another Game, Continues Spiraling Out of Control

Just as the Marlins look to be snapping their three-game skid, their pitching staff gives up three 7th inning home runs to drop yet another close game. They've now lost four straight and six of their last seven, dropping themselves 22.5 games back in the NL East. They're averaging four runs a game in that stretch but can't seem to get anything going on the mound as they've given up 39 runs in that same span. The Marlins continue to struggle on the road as well and their record now drops to 20-34 overall this season and 2-9 in their last 11 road games. This trend will continue as well if their pitching doesn't turn itself around soon.

Starting for the Marlins tonight will be Jordan Yamamoto, whose statistics look better than they actually are. He currently sits at 4-2 on the year but hasn't had a win since mid-July. His last three starts have all been losses or no decisions, and he has given up four or more earned runs in each. Yamamoto also hasn't made it into the 7th inning since his second start of the year on June 18th. His season ERA is at a 3.94, but over his last three starts, his ERA is a whopping 9.64. He started off the year with four wins in six starts and will be looking to return to that form tonight against a tough Mets lineup.
