Pittsburgh got back at the Marlins with a 1-0 victory last night. Starling Marte was responsible for the only run and score of the game. That happened when Corey Dickerson reached on bunt single to Marlins pitcher Brad Ziegler. The Pirates are one of the biggest surprise teams as they lead the NL Central with a 10-4 record after starting 6-8 last season. It’s their best start since 1992 when they won 12 out of the first 14 games. For the final meeting, they will bring Ivan Nova to the mound. His last start was against the Cubs on Tuesday where he held them to three runs over seven innings. Last year on this month, he threw a 95-pitch shutout in Miami.
The Marlins didn’t put up or have a repeat performance after they won the first game against Pittsburgh 7-2. In fact, they didn’t do anything in their second game. Despite a major rebuilding of the team (courtesy of former Yankees shortstop turned CEO Derek Jeter), they are still looking for a better place than the last place position in the NL East. Miami looks to counter Nova when they bring out their own RHP in top starter Jose Urena, who is still looking for a win on his record. He started to show improvement after showcasing five swinging strikes on 26 sliders thrown against the Mets.

Between the two teams, Pittsburgh is in a better state than the Marlins are. However, the last game showed that both teams reached an impasse before Marte made the only score. Miami is taking a lot of time to fully improve themselves which is not helping their case for their overall status. Now for Urena, the Mets are not the Pirates, but there is still no underestimating them. Some of the batters faced him before, and several of them had success. He would have to step up his game if he hopes to stay as the primary starting pitcher. If the Marlins need more time to get used to their new reality, then look for a tight game and a Pittsburgh victory.
