The Milwaukee Brewers travels south to start a three game series against the Atlanta Braves. After losing a series against the Cubs, the Brewers went 3-1 in their series against the Phillies in Philadelphia. They currently hold a 3-game win streak. After getting swept by the Dodgers, the Braves were able to rebound and win series against the D-Backs and then the Cardinals most recently. Tonight, the Brewers start RHP Jhoulys Chacin (3-4, 4.57 ERA) against the Braves LHP Max Fried (5-2, 3.25 ERA).

The Brewers destroyed Bryce Harper and the Phillies last game, 11-3. 2-3-4 batters, Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun and Mike Moustakas, respectively, all had 3-hit games. Yelich homered twice and doubled for his other hit. Reigning NL MVP has only continued his success this year. His slash line impressively sits at .342/.458/.760. If he keeps playing this well, he’ll have 63 HR and 141 RBIs. SP Zach Davies pitched a solid outing, going 6 IP with only one ER and 5 Ks. The Brewers smacked in at least one run against every Phillies pitcher.

After a shaking start, SP Jhoulys Chacin seems to be settling in. In his last 3 games, he only allowed 3 ER and struck out 8. Last year, Chacin played well for the Brewers. He went 15-8 with a 3.50 ERA. He held his opponents to a .298 OBP% and a .357 SLG%. This year both categories are slightly up. After a year of excellent control, he seems to be walking more batters as usual. And not being a strike-out pitcher, he struggles with the home run ball. But hopefully he can use the momentum of his last few starts to propel him and get more lasting confidence.

The Braves also played well their last game. They beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-2. Freddie Freeman went 3-4 with 1 HR and 2 RBIs. He also walked once. Julio Teheran also helped his own cause with a 2-run single. He earned the win that evening after going 5 innings, giving up no runs and striking out 4. He has a record of 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA.

Max Fried plays well for his age. After starting a total of 9 games in his first 2 years in the MLB, he went 2-5 with a career ERA of around 3.5. This year he only improves. He started 8 games, went 5-2 with a 3.25 ERA. He has struck out 41 batters and only allowed 9 walks. He ranks 6th in Groundball/Flyball ratio (1.15) just behind pitchers like Luis Castillo and above nearly everybody else. With a 5.88 Run Support average every game, he becomes a beacon for the Braves offense.

I like the pitching match-up. So it really comes down to the offenses and who can last longer. I see the Braves lasting longer on a pitching level. And their offense seem pretty evenly matched. This will come down to the last half of the game. I’m going with the Braves.

The Pick: Braves (-130)
