Line and Odds: Minnesota Twins ( -1.5 )-Over/Under: 9.5
It took some late game heroics from Dee Gordon in the 10th inning to give Seattle an upset win on the road against Minnesota. Despite blowing up countless occasions, the Mariners were able to capitalize on the Twins’ bad defense and come out with a win to even up things in the series. Mariners and Twins meet again this afternoon for the final act of this American League matchup. The teams entered the eight inning tied 1-1, before the game heated up with each team scoring five runs with the ball game up tied up at the end of the ninth inning. Seattle stole the win in the tenth and now has the momentum in the series. Will the Twins come back with a win today or will the Mariners come out with another upset?
The Mariners have been inconsistent all year long, alternating upset wins to streaks of bad losses. However, their offense has always been able to produce as shown by these last two matchups against the Twins. Dee Gordon was the game changer last night thanks to his scores in the 10th inning. Vogelbach added two runs and Encarnación had one, continuing to keep his numbers high. Encarnación leads the offense in home runs with 21 and in RBI with 41. Dominigo Santana adds 75 hits, 49 RBI and 13 home runs, while Vogelbach, Haniger, Bruce and Beckham all have over 10 home runs each. Yusei Kikuchi will get his second career start against Minnesota in a season where he has a 3-4 record with a 4.99 ERA and 51 strikeouts. The Mariners were able to score big in both of the first two games of the series and could end up winning another one against the home team. If the offense can score like last night, Seattle could leave Minnesota with a surprising series win.
The win in the series opener led the Minnesota Twins to the best record in the whole MLB. However, last night’s loss showed a lack of effort by the defense. The offense couldn’t keep up with the Mariners’ numbers either. Despite last night’s performance, the Twins still have one of the most talented rosters and their offense is capable of scoring multiple runs in a single inning, as happened in the eight inning of these last two games against Seattle.
Both Polanco and Rosario have had a great season so far. Eddie Rosario leads the team with 68 hits, 52 RBI and 19 home runs. Game 1 hero Jorge Polanco adds 86 hits, 35 RBI and 10 home runs and Kepler, Schloop, Cruz and Cron have more than ten home runs too. Michael Pineda will be on the mound tonight. He has a 4-3 record this season with a 5.34 ERA and 53 strikeouts. He has a winning 2-1 record against the Mariners topped by a 5.18 ERA and 23 strikeouts. Minnesota only lost ten games at home this season and they need a win to keep on pursuing the best record in MLB. After last night’s poor performance, the Twins will look to bounce back strong to avoid to lose the home series.

Seattle dominated last night’s game, with the Twins showing poor effort all game long. Seattle has been able to score big in both games so far, even leading for most of the time. Their offense has been solid and both pitchers have allowed too many runs lately. Seattle is in form, but considering Kikuki’s numbers the Minnesota Twins should win this matchup if it becomes a mere scoring battle, considering the recent poor performances by both pitchers.
Pick: Minnesota Twins -1.5
