MLB Futures: 2020 Home Run Leader Odds

With the 2020 Major League Baseball season right around the corner, we can finally dive in and start looking at MLB future odds. Pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training, Baseball is back!

The first future play we want to look into this season is the 2020 home run leader. With home run totals climbing in MLB over the past couple years, look for this season to be no different. Like most categories, there is tremendous value here that we will hopefully exploit.

According to the odds makers in Vegas, both favorites play for New York teams. Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge sits at the top opening at (+900), with first baseman Pete Alonso from the Mets right behind at (+950). Both of these sluggers can easily hit 50 homers in a single season and are great candidates to take home the prize.

Behind Judge and Alonso sits reigning American League MVP Mike Trout (+1200), followed by Joey Gallo (+1200), Ronald Acuna Jr. (+1400), Giancarlo Stanton (+1400), Christian Yelich (+1600), Cody Bellinger (+1600), Eugenio Suarez (+1600) and Yordan Alvarez (+1800) to round out the top 10 betting options. Here’s a closer look at three players we think can win you the bet while providing great value.

JD Martinez (+3500)

Outfielder/designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox, slugger JD Martinez opens at a whopping (+3500). JD finished second in home runs in 2018 with 43, just behind Oaklands Khris Davis. Slashing just 36 homers in 2019, we did see a small dip in power but has posted 79 home runs over the past two seasons. According to odds makers, Martinez may be a long shot to win it, but if you are value hungry take the chance on this contender and enjoy the juice at the end of the season.

Aaron Judge (+900)

The favorite to take home the 2020 home run crown, Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge sits at (+900). Since breaking into the big leagues in 2016, Judge has proven to be a superior power hitter. In 2017 he raked 52 homers, was awarded the AL Rookie of The Year trophy and finished second in MVP voting. With his 2018 and 2019 seasons, the power numbers were down as he slashed 27 homers in back to back seasons. We believe that with the small dimensions of the new Yankee Stadium, Judge is set to have a career year. Take the (+900) and walk to the bank with it.

Mike Trout (+1200)

No convincing needed when talking about Micheal Nelson Trout. Since breaking into the big leagues back in 2011, there’s no question who the best player in baseball is. Every year seems like a career year for Trout, but his 2019 season saw an even better version. While battling through injuries, Trout slashed 45 homers and took home the AL MVP crown. If Trout can avoid a trip to the DL in 2020, we see him surpassing that 45 mark and cashing the (+1200) at the seasons end.

The aggressive play here is to go with Aaron Judge(+900) leading the league in homers this season, Vegas seems to think so too. But in the sports betting world, favorites aren’t always the winners and we’re going another route. Take Mike Trout and cash the (+1200) as we expect him to eclipse the 50 homer mark in 2020.
