The New York Mets will send out Noah Syndergaard to the mound who left his last start after getting hit by a line drive in the ribs and has since been cleared after x-rays came back negative but managed to go 6 2/3 and allowed 4 earned runs on 12 hits in a win against the Phillies. Syndergaard has been great on the road with a 4-2 record and an ERA of 3.32 in 10 starts. The Mets face a lot of questions ahead however they got some clarity on their future on Thursday with their captain David Wright announcing he would play one final game for the team on its final home stand of the year and on September 29 is when he will start alongside Jose Reyes on the left side of the infield for a final time.

The Boston Red Sox will continue their historic season with Hector Velazquez pitching he has been mostly deployed from the bullpen starting just 7 of his 41 appearances this season. He has yet to record a quality start in those seven starts and in his last seven games. Velazquez has recorded an ERA of 5.06 and has nine walks and twelve strikeouts. The Red Sox has dominated the National League this season with a 14-3 record in interleague play with going 5-2 at home against the NL. Boston’s magic number for clinching the AL east now sits at six after their sweep of Toronto.

The Mets will have an advantage on the mound starting on Friday Night and will hope to carry momentum with a 3-game win streak including sweeping a doubleheader with the Marlins on Thursday. The Mets have been better these past ten games going 7-3 and their away record is 35-36 which is better than they have been at Shea Stadium. The Red Sox haven’t had an overwhelming bullpen with the bullpen blowing a 3-1 lead in the eighth inning Thursday night and Velazquez hasn’t been convincing as a starter and is better suited as a reliever and after clinching a playoff berth Boston appears to have the AL east crown locked up and with the Mets looking to finish strong and Syndergaard should be able to keep the momentum going the Mets should take this game to begin this 3-game series on the road.

Pick: New York +130

#RedSox re-did Alex Cora's contract. He's now signed through 2021 with a team option for 2022.

Original deal was through 2020 with a team option for 2021.

So he picks up a year and presumably a hefty raise.

Per Dave Dombrowski, Craig Kimbrel officially rejected his qualifying offer.

No surprise. He remains eligible to sign with the #RedSox. But if he signs with another team, Sox receive a draft pick.

#RedSox this week:

* Organizational meetings start today in Boston and run 3 days. The Series delayed them.

* Today is deadline to accept qualifying offers. Kimbrel expected to decline.

* Manager of the Year (Tue) and MVP (Thurs) will be named. Cora and Betts are finalists.

Doing a #RedSox Q&A at my work Facebook page. So feel free to post any questions there (as in not here):
