Tonight marks game one of a four-game series between the middle of the pack White Sox and division leader Yankees.
The New York Yankees continued their pitching slump last night in a 10-4 loss to their bitter rival Mets. Throughout all nine innings, there was little to no positively for the Yankees and fans must still be anticipating a game where things finally come together. James Paxton started the game and had a short-lived performance on the mound only pitching 2.2 innings and in that time allowed 6 runs before being booed off. Early on in the first, you could sense it was going to be a rough day for the Yanks and that’s exactly how things went. Pete Alonso hit a home run that brought in three runs for the Mets in the bottom of the first. Things continued to go south for the Yankees as Paxton allowed 3 more runs before being pulled in his short stint. The Mets bats might have just been smoking because Chance Adams came in following Paxton and looked to patch things up but allowed a single run shot by J.D. Davis on his second pitch. There was no stopping the Mets, eventually cumulating 10 runs to the Yankees 4.
The Yankees lead the AL East coming into to tonight but only by a half game and desperately need to get back into their groove to continue their first place run. They’ve won 17 of their last 26 and that tallied up a 7 game win streak during that stretch but have only won 4 of their last 10. Luckily for the Yankees, they are facing the White Sox for the first time tonight and go in knowing they’re the better team. On the year they have been batting .258 and .260 in June so little to no change at the plate but opponents are hitting well with a .275 BA which is scary with the White Sox coming off a performance like last night.
The Chicago White Sox come off a red hot performance against the 36-31 Nationals. Wellington Castillo made one of the most exciting plays in all of the sports with his second career grand slam last night giving the Sox a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the first. Eloy Jimenez is living up to the hype going 2-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Between those two last night, they single handidly won the game for the White Sox. Banuelos allowed 6 hits and 2 earned runs before exiting the game leaving way for four more pitchers to enter the game and keep the Mets to only 3 more runs. The run support given by the White Sox more than made up for what would be a rough night on the mound on any other given night.
They come into tonight sitting a game and a half back from The Indians and 12 games back from the red hot Twins. This team has a viable chance for a wild card spot being in the struggling AL Central division if they continue to hit the way they have. With a 3-7 record in their last ten, the team is in a slump and it will be tough to make any sort of playoff run if they continue to fail to put together a complete game. Oddly enough Chicago is actually amidst their best stretch of the season since May 27th where they started a 5 game win streak winning 9 of 14 since then.

The start of this series should begin as expected with a Yankees win. The White Sox have yet to play a complete team game in the past week and are in a rough section of their pitching rotation compared to New York being able to put out their 6-3 ace. It’s tough to win a ball game with a guy like Ian Nova allowing on average 6.28 earned runs, especially against a star-studded hard-hitting batting lineup like New York
