The New York Yankees continue their west coast road trip with a trip to Houston where they will send Sonny Gray to the hill. The Yankees are currently on a nine-game win streak after a 2-1 win against the Angels Sunday night. Sonny Gray starts this game having not been good this year allowing 18 earned runs in 21 innings he’s pitched so far. His lone win this season came against one of the worst teams in the majors in the Orioles and even then, he gave up 3 earned and hasn’t managed to make it through the fifth inning since that April 7th start. Giancarlo Stanton the reigning NL MVP hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts but appears to finally have settled into pinstripes as in his last 7 games Stanton is 10 for 26 with 9 runs scored. The Yankees best offensive weapon this season has been far and away Didi Gregorius who is hitting .340 on the year and is tied with Mike Trout for most home runs in the majors with 10 and also leads in RBIs with 30.

The Houston Astros will start Charlie Morton on Monday night. Morton has had a great start to the season but struggled his last time out giving up 4 runs in 4 innings of work but got the no decision but the Astros took the loss. Morton has been exception though only allowing 6 runs and having struck out 35 batters in his 28 innings of work. Morton will look to rebound in the friendly confines of Minute Maid Park where he shutout the Yankees in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS over 5 innings. Houston’s offense is led by Jose Altuve the current AL MVP leads the AL in hits and sits 2nd in batting average at .351 on the year.

Free MLB Predictions New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros

The Yankees and Astros will meet for the first time since Houston ended New York’s season in the ALCS last year in a 7-game thriller of a series. The Yankees have talked all offseason of their desire to face off with the Astros again. However, with Sonny Gray getting the start the offense for the Yankees will need to provide run support for him. Although the Yankees come in riding high the Astros have spoken of not wanting to struggle in the regular season after their World Series victory like the Cubs last year. The Astros will have a clear advantage on the mound and the offenses can both be quite dynamic when needed but Morton is started this year off right and shouldn’t be slowed too much by this high-powered Yankee team.
