The Athletics proved their dominance over the Yankees yet again last night en route to a 6-4 victory at home. New York made a 6th/7th inning push that was not enough to overcome the A's, who are now 8-1 at home against this Yankees team in their last nine. Oakland continues to hit the long ball early in their own park, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a few more leave the stadium in tonight's matchup.

Yankees Struggle with RISP... Again

In last night's performance, New York left 10 on base and went 3-10 with RISP. This is a bad trend to start this close to playoffs, and the Yankees will need to fix it quick. They have now fallen a game behind the Dodgers and are only two in front of the Astros in the AL. Over the last seven days, they've only had 17 RBI's and 8 HR. In the seven days prior to that, they had 44 RBI'sand 16 HR's! Something is not clicking with New York at the moment, and their pitching struggles have started really impacting their slumping offense as well.

Pitching the final game of this series for the New York Yankees will be Masahiro Tanaka. The fifth-year righty out of Hyogo, Japan has a 9-6 record on the year and is toting a 4.56 ERA. 9-6 may not seem all that great, but over his last seven decisions, he is actually 6-1. In late June, he had an ERA of only 3.21. But after three games with five or more (5, 12, 6 to be exact) ER in late July/early August, his ERA skyrocketed to 4.79. The Yankees have played pretty well with him on the mound over the last three months, and even in his no-decision starts they seem to pull off the win (11-2 as a team since the start of June when Tanaka starts). Masahiro has had his struggles on the road this season and has a 2-4 record in 11 starts to show for it. He also hasn't done so well with men on base (OB BA = .341 // RISP BA = .377), so tonight could be rough against an A's team with 15 hits and five HR in the last two games alone.
