Oakland Athletics and their SP Mike Fiers won the first game of the series against the Chicago White Sox. RHP Fiers improved his record to 11-3, after going 7 scoreless innings, with only 3 hits allowed, no walks and 8 strikeouts. The entire Oakland pitching staff did not give up a walk and shutout the White Sox.

Today's game, game 2 of the series, the A's hope to continue winning and improve their playoff stock, while the Sox hope to enter the fringe of the playoff hunt. The A's will have Tanner Roark (1-0, 1.80 ERA) on the mound today against RHP Reynaldo Lopez (6-9, 5.41 ERA).

The White Sox continue to play poor offensively. After a solid series against the Tigers, the game against the A's looked similar to their previous struggle. They only got 4 hits and struck out 11 times, going 0-4 with RISP. Although they hold a top half BA as a team, the Sox are on the bottom five in runs, SLG%, and OBP%.

Tanner Roark started the season with the Reds, but spent much of the time on IL. He went 6-7 with a 4.24 ERA and 1.42 WHIP during that time. His debut with the A's was promising, going 5 innings giving up only 1 run, striking out 6. Despite the solid debut outing, in the last 7 starts Roark puts up a dismal 5.66 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. But Roark does better on the road (5-1, 4.06 ERA) and better against right-heavy lineups such as the White Sox.
