MLB Baseball: Friday, September 20th, 2019 at 10:07 PM ET (RingCentral Coliseum)

Line and Odds: Oakland Athletics ( -1.5 )-Over/Under: 8.5

Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers meet tonight in Oakland for their last series of the season. The two AL West division rivals have had totally opposite seasons this year as the Rangers season is already over as they have missed out on the playoffs for a third consecutive year, while the A’s are just a few inches away from clinching a Wild Card spot. Who’s taking the series opener tonight?

With less than ten games left in the regular season, the Texas Rangers are approaching their third consecutive year without playoffs. The Rangers have struggled all year long, but still managed to close out the first half of the season only three games below the Wild Card berth. However, the Rangers quickly slipped down the rankings since the All Star Break starting 2-8 and going on two four-games losing streaks for an overall 26-37 record and a total of 272 runs scored in the second half of the season. Elvis Andrus leads the Rangers with 164 hits, 67 RBI and 10 home runs, while Shin-Soo Choo and Rougned Odor have combined for 241 hits, 138 RBI and 49 home runs. Mike Minor has a 13-9 record this season with a 3.33 ERA and 188 strikeouts, but has a losing 2-3 career record against Oakland with a 4.83 ERA and 28 strikeouts. The Rangers need him to keep up his performances if want to start the series with a win tonight.

The Oakland Athletics have been one of the hottest teams in the American League all year long and now they are just a couple of games away from clinching the Wild Card berth and leaving the reigning World Series Champions, the Boston Red Sox, out of the playoffs. The A’s struggled at the beginning of the season, even going on a six-games losing spell at the end of April, but quickly figured things out and went on a eleven-games winning streak in mid May. After that run the team never slowed down and only improved in the second half of the season with a 42-20 record and a total of 340 runs scored. Marcus Siemen leads the team with 177 hits, 87 RBI and 31 home runs, while All Star Matt Chapman, Khris Davis and Matt Olson have combined for 357 hits, 243 RBI and 91 home runs. Mike Fiers will get the start tonight. Fiers has a great 14-4 record this year with a 4.09 ERA and 117 strikeouts and has 3-3 career record against Texas topped by a bad 6.50 ERA and 60 strikeouts. The Athletics need to keep on being consistent if they want to defend the home field tonight.

A’s and Rangers meet tonight for Game 1 of their last three-games series of the year. The home team needs to keepp winning to secure a spot in the postseason, while the Rangers’ season is already over. The pitching matchup looks even, but Oakland’s offensive talent and their motivation will likely grant them the win tonight.
