Line and Odds: Oakland Athletics ( -1.5 )-Over/Under: 9

Game 1 of this three-games AL West series between the Oakland AThletics and the Texas Rangers saw the home team dominating the contest. Thanks to a three-run homer by Chad Pinder and runs by Matt Chapman, Matt Olson, Mark Canha, Sean Murphy and Ramón Laureano, the A’s were able to secure an easy 8-0 win, keeping a two-games Wild Card lead. The two teams go back at it tonight, who’s taking Game 2?

With less than ten games left in the regular season, the Texas Rangers are approaching their third consecutive year without playoffs. The Rangers have struggled all year long, but still managed to close out the first half of the season only three games below the Wild Card berth. However, the Rangers quickly slipped down the rankings since the All Star Break starting 2-8 and going on two four-games losing streaks for an overall 26-38 record and a total of 272 runs scored in the second half of the season. Elvis Andrus leads the Rangers with 154 hits, 67 RBI and 10 home runs, while Shin-Soo Choo and Rougned Odor have combined for 242 hits, 138 RBI and 49 home runs. Brock Burke will be on the mound for his first career start against Oakland tonight. Burke has a 0-1 record this season with a 5.19 ERA and 14 strikeouts. The Rangers need him to have a great second career start if they want to tie up things in the series.

The Oakland Athletics have been one of the hottest teams in the American League all year long and now they have just eliminated the Wild Card the reigning World Series Champions, the Boston Red Sox, from the Wild Card Race. The A’s struggled at the beginning of the season, even going on a six-games losing spell at the end of April, but quickly figured things out and went on a eleven-games winning streak in mid May. After that run the team never slowed down and only improved in the second half of the season with a 43-20 record and a total of 348 runs scored. Marcus Siemen leads the team with 178 hits, 88 RBI and 31 home runs, while All Star Matt Chapman, Khris Davis and Matt Olson have combined for 358 hits, 242 RBI and 91 home runs. Sean Manaea Fiers will get the start tonight. Manaea has a 2-0 record this year with a 0.50 ERA and 21 strikeouts and has a good 5-2 career record against Texas topped by a 3.15 ERA and 53 strikeouts. The Athletics need to keep on being consistent if they want to defend the home field tonight.
