After winning a tough, but important series against the Philadelphia Phillies, the San Diego Padres continue their road trip north to Cincinnati to battle against the Reds. The Reds, in the other hand, have gone 4-4 in the last two home series, going even in each of them. San Diego will start LHP Eric Lauer (6-8, 4.55 ERA) on the mound against one of the Reds' newest additions, RHP Trevor Bauer (1-1 7.31 ERA).
The Padres won a close one yesterday against the Phillies. It came down to backstop Austin Hedges's performance. He finished the game 4-4 with the game-deciding solo shot in the 7th. Joey Lucchesi went 6 solid inning only giving up 2 runs while the bullpen shutout the Phillies for the long run. Closer Kirby Yates earned his 35th save by striking out the entire side.
Manny Machado, the 300 million dollar man. He has had a rather disappointing season, along with the struggling Padres, who, at this point, are outside of the playoff race looking in. In his last 15 games, Machado has a tragic slash line of .180/.242/.213 with no HR or RBI. The Padres went 8-7 in that span. But during his time with the team that drafted him (the Baltimore Orioles) he came against Trevor Bauer often. And he had his number. He went 9-14 with 4 HR and 5 RBI against Bauer. Here's to Machado turning the tide on his season.
The Reds lost their game yesterday against the St Louis Cardinals, 4-5. SP Alex Wood gave up 4 runs, proving to be too many for the Reds. Rookie sensation Aristides Aquino was blanked, but did earn 2 walks. The Reds got on base more than St Louis they just couldn't orchestrate those runners did get all the way in (2-7 with RISP).
