After a 3-game win streak, the San Francisco Giants lost 4 straight, including getting swept by the Chicago Cubs most recently. On the other hand, the Oakland A's have been on fire at home as of late, they swept the visiting, MLB-leading New York Yankees, and won a series against the AL-West leading Houston Astros. Now its the Battle of the Bay, well the second round, since they squared up against each other earlier this month, splitting the series. Tonight, the Giants will start ace LHP Madison Bumgarner (8-8, 3.72 ERA) against RHP Chris Bassitt (9-5, 3.61 ERA).

The Giants last played the Cubs on Thursday, losing 0-1. SP Jeff Samardzija went 7 IP with only 2 hits given up, 1 run and 4 strikeouts, but he still got the loss. The Giants' offense only got on base 4 times, earning zero walks in the process, even with two XBH. And yet they had a great offensive game -- although still a loss -- in their previous outing against the Cubs, 11-12. In that game, the Giant hit 4 HR off of Yu Darvish. In the month of August, San Francisco ranks 21st in runs as well as HR, both bottom tier.

Mike Yastrzemski was one of those Giants who hit a HR against Darvish. He has been a bit of a star for the offense in the month of August, or even as far as Post-All Star Break. Post All Star he has a slash line of .308/.353/.657 with 12 HR and 31 RBI. Before he was hitting .242. In his last 7 games he has hit 4 HR. And he particularly has been good against lefties this season, hitting .339 in 56 AB, but gets his power against the righties.

The Athletics really flexed in their series against the Yankees in what could be a preview to the AL Wild Card matchup. In their most recent outing, the A's won 5-3 against the Yanks. Roark went 6 with lily one earned run and got the win. And a hot Mark Canha hit in two with a single. In the 3-game series, the A's scored 16 runs against the usually stingy Yankees.
