FREE MLB PICK: Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros

The Mariners could be officially eliminated from winning the AL West tonight if they lose to the Astros. Seattle will have to sweep the series to keep that from happening, but they will most likely lose one of these games to Houston. The Mariners elimination number is six in the wild card race and they just got passed by the Tampa Bay Rays in the race as well. The Ms will now have to leap frog two teams with 13 games left in the season. Seattle can still help the Oakland Athletics get close to the AL West crown with a sweep in this series, but the way Houston has been playing, that probably won’t happen. The Astros are 8-2 in their last 10 games, would like to keep playing great baseball, and keep Oakland four and a half games back. Monday’s starters are Wade LeBlanc (8-4, 3.56 ERA) vs Framber Valdez (3-1, 2.66 ERA)

The Seattle Mariners have been playing simulation baseball. Seattle is going through the motions of September and just playing okay. The Ms have gone 5-5 in their last ten games and haven’t showed that much fight. Even though they just took three of four games from the Los Angeles Angels, the Mariners have been on and off during the second half with streaks. However, Seattle has gone 8-8 against the Astros this season and this may be a nice moral victory for the Mariners if they can beat the defending World Series champs in the regular season series. The Mariners have a great chance of taking game one with Wade LeBlanc on the hill. LeBlanc has given up around zero to two earned runs in his last four starts and around four to six hits allowed. He can go around five or six innings and will do his best to keep the hot Astros bats cold.

The Houston Astros are getting hot again at the right time. The teams that play well in September can sometimes ride the ship to a World Series crown and we know the Astros would love to repeat as champions. Houston is 12-2 for the month of September and have gone 7-0-1 in their last eight series. The Astros have done well to push through some injury problems and keep the Athletics back at times because of their marvelous pitching staff and of course the depth they have on offense. Houston has been winning a lot of one run games recently and winning those tight games is like practicing for the postseason. Tonight’s game will be close as well and Framber Valdez will be ready to go. Valdez isn’t an innings eater guy, but has only given up one run in each of his four starts this season.

Cover The Spread 365

So, the season series has been tight between these two clubs and expect this game to be close as well. Both starters don’t go deep into games, but don’t give up that many runs as well. Houston will have the edge because they have baseball luck on their side at the moment and they have been very dominant this month. Plus, the Astros need to keep the Athletics away from their division crown, so they don’t have to play the one game wild card playoff against the New York Yankees. Houston’s magic number to clinch the AL West is nine. All in all, this game will be close, but the Astros will cover the spread with a 3-2 win.

PICK: Houston Astros -180
