Tampa Bay will hope to avoid getting swept while Seattle hopes to finish their road trip strong. The Mariners are looking to split the season series with each sweeping the other on the road. The Rays will also hope to avoid falling out of the final AL wild-card spot with a third straight loss. Seattle won 7-4 on Tuesday night despite going just 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position and stranding eight runners. The Mariners have struggled during day games going 15-18. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has a 31-23 record during day games.
Seattle hopes to finish road trip strong
Seattle is 5-1 SU in their last 6 games. The Mariners may just be 15-18 since the all-star break but they are 6-2 on their current road trip. The Mariners have finally found some offense with Tom Murphy in August going 13 for 30 with six home runs and 10 RBIs. Murphy has hit all six of those homers in his past four games. The Mariners will turn back to an opener with Cory Gearrin getting the first inning of work. Wade LeBlanc will take over after that. LeBlanc has struggled in his three appearances this month going 0-3 with a 6.50 ERA. LeBlanc’s lone appearance against Tampa this year saw him go seven innings and only allowing one run in a 1-0 loss earlier this month.
