MLB: Tuesday, August 13, 2019 8:15 PM (Kauffman Stadium)
ML: Cardinals -250, Royals +200, Over/Under 9.5 (MyBookie)
Odds: St Louis Cardinals -1.5 (MyBookie)
The St Louis Cardinals were able to win a shootout against the Pittsburgh Pirates, winning 11-9. Paul Goldschmidt was able to earn the cardinals first couple of runs with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 1st. Lane Thomas was able to take the lead with a Grand Slam in the bottom of the 7th. Dexter Fowler sealed the game for the Cardinals with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 8th. Pitching today for the Cardinals is Jack Flaherty, who is 5-6 on the mound this year, with an ERA of 3.72.
The Kansas City Royals completely dominated the Detroit Tigers, winning 10-2. Whit Merrifield and Hunter Dozier crushed any confidence Daniel Norris had when they each hit a home run on their first at bat. Hunter Dozier also hit another home run in the top of the 8th. Jorge Soler was fantastic on the day, hitting 2 home runs and earning 5 RBIs on the day. Pitching for the Royals today is Glenn Sparkman, who is 4-7 on the mound this year, with an ERA of 5.71.
While the St Louis Cardinals won’t typically light up the scoreboard, they will keep their opponents from lighting the scoreboard with their stellar pitching. The Cardinals are ranked 26th in total runs earned (518) but are ranked a stellar 7th in total ERA (4.08). Even over the last 7 days, St Louis is ranked 6th in total ERA (3.30).
To be as blunt as possible, the Kansas City Royals are bad. They have the 3rd worst record in the league, are ranked 24th in total runs earned (525) and 24th in total ERA (5). I will give them where credit is due though, the Royals are easily better than the Orioles and the Tigers, but that isn’t really saying much considering they’re the worst team in the MLB.
The total has gone UNDER in 6 of St Louis’ last 7 games.
St Louis are 6-0 SU in their last 6 games when playing on the road against Kansas City.
St Louis are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games against Kansas City.
Kansas City are 4-12 SU in their last 16 games.
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Kansas City’s last 5 games against St. Louis.
Kansas City are 1-6 SU in their last 7 games at home.
Now for this 2-game series, I wouldn’t be surprised if this series was split, thanks to how poor the Cardinals are at batting. However, that all depends on who they start tomorrow, because the Cardinals are not losing against the Royals today.
