The San Diego Padres had a very rough start to their home series against the Tampa Bay Rays. They dropped to 55-63 and will now look to bounce back tonight. Ian Kinsler was the lone pop of the night for San Diego, hitting a two-run home run late in the 9th inning with the game still out of reach. The Padres pulled starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi out in the 5th inning after giving up three runs on five hits, leaving him unable to stay above .500 in the win/loss column as San Diego was down 3-2 by then. Matt Duffy drove in a run for the Rays on an infield single in the 3rd to take the lead and the Padres’ bullpen couldn’t keep it close as they allowed 7 runs after Lucchesi was removed. The Padres just can't maintain consistency, going 5-5 in their last 10 games and ironically outgaining their opponents 58-51. LHP Eric Lauer (6-8) will take the mound against the Rays for the first time this season looking to tie up the series.
