After losing a series against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Tampa Bay Rays quickly rebounded sweeping the Seattle Mariners to start their road trip. The San Diego Padres won a series against NL West rivals, the Colorado Rockies. Tampa Bay has thrived on away games, while the Padres are only marginally better at home than they are on the road. The Rays will start RHP Diego Castillo (2-6, 3.50 ERA) tonight against LHP Joey Lucchesi (7-6, 4.19 ERA).

To finish the series against the Mariners, the Rays won a shutout, 1-0, on Sunday. RHP and rising star Ryan Yarbrough threw a gem. He nearly completed the game. Tallying 8.2 IP, Yarbrough threw 8 strikes and only gave up 3 hits. Jesus Aguilar got 2 hits along with Avisail Garcia. But it was Eric Sogard with the 4th inning solo shot that put the Rays on the board -- and kept them there for the long run.

Diego Castillo will probably be used as an opener. He has 14 holds this season along with 8 saves. In his last 7 appearances, the Rays have won every game and he hasn't given up a single run in that span, totaling 5 IP and 6 strikeouts. Yet the last time he gave up a run the Rays lost.

The San Diego Padres may have won the series against the Colorado Rockies, but they fell short of a sweep on Sunday, 3-8. The Padres bullpen gave up 6 runs down the stretch which ultimately cost them the game. The Padres lineup only accumulated 6 hits against the Rockies. Backstop Francisco Mejia was the only standout on Sunday, going 3-4, with a solo homer.
