The Texas Rangers will start Adrian Sampson who has been brilliant of late as he has allowed just two earned runs in 16 innings in his two starts this month and Sampson has also won his past five starts. Sampson went the full nine innings allowing just four hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts to just one walk in his last start. Sampson has allowed just more than a single run in those past five starts and has had just one strikeout in just one of those games. The Rangers is 6-3 against the AL East and is 12-11 against left-handed pitching. Texas is 3-3 in extra innings this season but has struggled the road going 12-19 away from home.
The Boston Red Sox have been inconsistent this season after coming off their World Series victory last season. The Red Sox have especially struggled with bullpen issues as they have blown 11 saves in 25 save opportunities which are ninth most in the majors following the departure of Craig Kimbrel in free agency who has recently signed with the Cubs. The Red Sox will give the start David Price who has won his last two starts and has been terrific against left-handed batters with them going just 5 for 31 for a .161 average. Boston has struggled against good teams going 11-20 against teams over .500 and is 5-5 in their last ten games.

These are two of the best offensive teams in the majors with both ranking in the top ten in runs scored this season. This will be the final game of a four-game series with Texas taking the first two games and Boston winning Wednesday’s game and will look to secure a split on Thursday night. The Red Sox trail the Rangers in the AL wild-card standings by two games in this early season. Boston could struggle to get the win if Price can’t go at least six innings and will need to improve their home form as they are just 16-17 at home. The Red Sox should get the victory with Price going deep into the game and Sampson struggling the second time through the Red Sox lineup as he is allowing hitters to bat .250 against him the first time through and .333 the second time through as Boston’s offense gets going to pull away for the victory.
