Baltimore Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays MLB Pick
After rallying to a comeback win in Baltimore last night, the Blue Jays seemed to come alive against a weak Orioles pitching corps. Vlad Guerrero Jr and Luke Maile brought in 2 runs each, while Cavan Biggio, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Rowdy Tellez and Justin Smoak all rolling through home plate once. Edwin Jackson managed to allow only 2 runs, bringing his woeful 11.90 ERA down to 10.20. The relief let 4 runs through in the 8th inning, but the batters played just well enough to win.
In Thursday’s matchup, ace Marcus Stroman takes the mound. His 63 strikeouts are good for 2nd on the team, and he’s by far the best starter they’ll see in this series. He’s absolutely capable of shutting down Baltimore’s sputtering offense, while their 8th ranked relief holds it down late in the game.
Baltimore Orioles Preview
The Orioles brought in a win in the first game of this series, but fell last night. They rallied late in the 8th with 4 runs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 6 run 4th by Toronto. David Hess played about par for the course this season, allowing 4 runs in 4 innings.
As Gabriel Ynoa makes his 11th career start, and the 26 year old has a 4.94 career ERA. Luckily the Blue Jays batters aren’t flying too high, but he will have to contend with young talents like Rowdy Tellez (who’s grand slam took home the win) and Vlad Guerrero Jr., who scored twice yesterday. They’ll have to get better play out of their relief as well, who fell apart after the Orioles took an early lead.

In the final game of this series, the Orioles and Blue Jays are jockeying for position at the bottom of the AL East. It’s been a back-and-forth series, but the Blue Jays have an edge tonight. Yesterday, they took home a win riding the arm of their worst starting pitcher, out of pure desperation. Now, they have their ace in Stroman taking the mound and he can shut down the Orioles for 4-5 innings before the relief takes over. Guerrero and Tellez seem to have found sparks again, and can lead them to a victory tonight.
