MLB Picks Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles
Toronto has been on the wrong side of games this year which is why they are 4th in a very strong AL East with a record of 24-43. They are currently 17.5 games back of first place and are 3-7 in their last 10 games but are looking to get back to their winning ways this series. Their opponent for tonight will be a inner division rivalry versus the Baltimore Orioles. A major problem for the Orioles is how they have played at home, on the season they are 9-24 and have a better away record of 12-22.
Toronto Blue Jays
A big reason Toronto is below .500 this year has been because of their offense. The Blue Jays have not been consistent offensively and it has showed this whole season and especially their last 10 games. They are currently ranked 27th and as a team, Toronto is batting .219, which is 3rd worst overall in the league. As individual players go, Toronto has nobody consistent in the batters box this year. Freddy Galvis has been decent this year where he currently is batting .236 and this is the highest on the team. Another player that has stood out this year has been Justin Smoak, he is the player to watch tonight where he leads the team in home runs with 12, and RBI’s with 33.
Another problem for the Blue Jays this year has been their pitching where they currently sit at 20th overall in the MLB. Although this isnt a bad ranking as far from good considering thier offensive performance. Through 67 games played this year they have a 4.61 ERA and as a pitching staff they have had 3 shutouts this year which is tied for 17th in the league. Their go to guy on the mound is Marcus Stroman who has played in 11 games this year and pitched 81.2 innings. Stroman has posted 63 strikeouts but has a losing record of 3-8. With an offense that doesn’t post a lot of runs, it’s hard for a pitching staff to keep opposing offenses off the board and this has ultimately led to a disappointing season for Toronto.
It’s been . struggle forBaltimore when it comes to getting runners on base. They are 25th in the MLB in offense where they have a run total of 271 and a team batting average of .238. They have had a consistent problem when it comes to brining runners home that are in scoring position. A go to guy for the Orioles this season has been Trey Mancini, this year he is batting at an impressive .302 batting average while having a .556 slugging percentage. His teammate, Dwight Smith Jr has also played decent this year, he has brought in a team high 41 RBI’s this season.
Baltimore’s pitching has been abysmal this season where they are currently dead last in the league with allowing 5.52 runs per game. Baltimores ace this year has been Dylan Bundy, his stats for the year aren’t anything special. He leads the team with the lowest era of 4.50 and has a total of 70 strikeouts. Andrew Cashner has been another pitcher who has out performed his teammates and has 6 wins on the season while managing to strikeout 51 batters.

Marcus Stroman will step on the mound for Toronto in tonights matchup where he is 3-8 on the year. The opposing pitcher will be Gabriel Ynoa, he is winless on the year with a 0-2 record and only 28 strikeouts. The series is currently tied 1-1 but i can see Baltimore taking control of the game with their offense and a decent start from Ynoa.
