Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees

Toronto Blue Jays (63-91) at New York Yankees (100-55)

MLB Baseball: Saturday, September 21, 2019 1:05 PM EST (Yankee Stadium)

Line & Odds: Blue Jays (+150), Yankees (-180) – Over/Under 9.5

The Blue Jays managed to take game one of the three-game series on Friday night.

Justin Smoak and Danny Jansen both homered in Toronto’s 4-3 victory. The team’s other run came on a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. infield single. The Blue Jays have won five straight and are 8-2 in the last 10 games.

Rookie Jacob Waguespack made the start. He allowed three runs on four hits in five innings. The five bullpen arms that followed allowed a combined two hits and one walk. Jason Adam picked up the win.

The explosive New York lineup was limited to just three runs on six hits while striking out 12 times. Aaron Judge and Tyler Wade homered in the loss. All-Star Gleyber Torres left the game after falling during a play in the infield. However, it does not seem to be a serious injury. The Yankees have been drowned with injuries all season, and now is the worst time for more to come.

Starter J.A. Happ allowed two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. Reliever Tommy Kahnle got the loss after giving up two runs in the one inning he pitched.

Toronto will start rookie T.J. Zeuch. He is 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA in three appearances, one of which was a start. The righty started on Sept. 15 against the Yankees when he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He also walked three and struck out five in the game.

James Paxton will start for the Yankees. In 27 starts this season, the left-hander is 14-6 with a 3.88 ERA. He is going for a 10th straight win on Saturday. Paxton pitched against Toronto last Saturday, allowing one run on three hits over five innings.
