Atlanta Hawks (14-38) vs Boston Celtics (35-15)
NBA: Friday, February 7, 2020 7:30 PM (TD Garden)
ML: Hawks +325, Celtics -425, Over/Under 226.5 (MyBookie)
Odds: Celtics -9.5 (MyBookie)
The Atlanta Hawks were able to extend the Timberwolves loss streak to 13, winning with a score of 127-120. John Collins had a great day, earning himself a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Trae Young did what he normally does every night and earned a double-double as well with 38 points and 11 assists. Although Atlanta did prove why they lead the league in turnovers per game with a whopping 19 turnovers.
The Boston Celtics were able to handedly beat the Orlando Magic on Wednesday with a score of 116-100. Jayson Tatum and Gordon Hayward both came close to a double-double on the night, but neither finished with one. Tatum finished a whopping 38 points and 8 rebounds, and Hayward finished with 23 points and 7 rebounds and assists.
After acquiring Clint Capela from the Houston Rockets, they’re hoping that he’ll actual be able to bring some semblance of defensive play to the team. Capela is 4th in rebounds per game and 7th in blocks per game. The next closest players for those categories on the team after John Collins is Trae Young with 4.6 rebounds per game (good enough for 109th in the league) and Damien Jones with 0.8 blocks per game (good enough to be tied at 44th in the league). Now I do have to state that this isn’t including Dewayne Dedmon or Scal Labissiere, but that’s because they won’t have nearly as much of an impact as Capela will on the team.
To keep things as simple as possible, the Celtics are the better team no question. They’re 12th in points per game, 9th in field goal percentage, 14th in 3-pointer percentage, 14th in rebounds per game, 8th in turnovers per game, 6th in steals per game, 6th in blocks per game, and have the 2nd best +/- rating. Even with their 20th in assists per game, they still rank higher than the Hawks in every category. The Celtics also have the 6th best home record in the NBA with a 21-5 record.
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Atlanta’s last 7 games.
Atlanta are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games against Boston.
Atlanta are 0-6 SU in their last 6 games against Boston.
Boston are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games at home.
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Boston’s last 5 games when playing at home against Atlanta.
Boston are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games this season.
As much as I would love to say the Hawks moves at the trade deadline will spark a historic win streak for the Hawks, that isn’t going to happen. The talent difference in the two team is just too much for the hawks. The Celtics should have no problem winning this game and cover the spread as well. I do think, however, that with the addition of Capela, the Hawks will have the lead in the first half.
