Free ESPN NBA Picks Atlanta Hawks Vs New Orleans Pelicans

In tonight’s inter-conference match up, the Hawks head to New Orleans to take on the Pelicans. Atlanta has won their last two, while NOLA has dropped their last two. As the Hawks strive to look the ball rolling, the Pelicans will be looking to bounce back

New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans are just 2-8 over their last ten and an even 18-18 at home. They’ve fared poorly against the East this year with just a 10-18 record as well. Furthermore, when the two teams met earlier in the month, they Pelicans lost 116-128. In that game, the team was without Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis played just 21 minutes. Julius Randle and Frank Jackson both had 23 points and Elfrid Payton had a 15 point triple double.

Both Jrue Holiday and E’Twaun Moore are ruled out for tonight, and while Anthony Davis is probable, Elfrid Payton is questionable. For the Pelicans to win tonight, they’ll likely need Julius Randle to have a massive game. Furthermore, Anthony Davis needs to be highly productive in his limited allotted minutes. Over his last ten, Randle is putting up 23.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists, however his 47.7% field goal percentage leaves a bit to be desired for a big man.

Frank Jackson is expected to start tonight, and while he’s put up 15.6 points per game over his last ten, he’s only shooting 44.1% from the field, 32.1% from three and 61.1% from the line. He’ll need to score more efficiently to give the Pelicans a chance tonight. One of the x-factors for NOLA tonight is whether or not Payton plays. He’s averaging nearly a triple double over his last ten, and the team desperately needs someone to run their offense.

Atlanta Hawks

While the team is just 4-6 in their last ten and 11-26 on the road, they’ve improved since the start of the season. For a 12th seed, they have a respectable 12-15 record against a strong Western Conference, and Trae Young was just named Player of the Week.

Young’s shooting averages still need improvement, but over his last ten he’s putting up 21.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 8.4 assists on 42.4% from the field and 31.6% from deep. Nonetheless he looks a lot more confident since the new year, and he hit the game winner three nights ago to beat the 76ers.

Look for other John Collins, Dewayne Dedmon and Taurean Prince to have solid outings tonight to propel the Hawks past the Pelicans. Collins is putting up 19 points and 10 rebounds over his last ten, Dewayne Dedmon averages about 11 points and 9 rebounds, and Taurean Prince is averaging 14.2 points on 49% from deep.

ESPN NBA Scores New Orleans Pelicans Vs Atlanta Hawks

Given their injuries Anthony Davis’ limited minutes, one of two things needs to happen for NOLA to win. If Julius Randle has a huge game they might win, but it seems unlikely given the Hawks solid big man rotation. Alternatively, if the entire team to shoot lights out from deep they could win, but this is similarly unlikely given that they rank 28th in 3P% over their last ten. I have the Hawks winning and covering tonight behind big games from Trae Young and John Collins.

Pick: Atlanta Hawks (Even)
