It’s going to be a battle in the Big Apple as the Los Angeles Clippers continue a road swing that will proceed after the All Star break as they visit the Brooklyn Nets Monday night.
The Los Angeles Clippers are coming off a 112-98 road loss to the Sixers Saturday night, snapping their three game win streak. The Clippers had tagged three in a row and five of six before running out of luck against Philly. With the loss to the Sixers, it leaves the Clippers half a game behind the Pelicans for the final playoff spot in the West entering today’s action. L.A. trailed by nine after the opening quarter and by 14 at the half before making a move: they cut the deficit in half after three quarters and climbed within two midway through the fourth. The Clippers then went on a drought, not scoring for more than four minutes as the Sixers nailed together an 8-0 run that seemed to be the nail in the coffin. Clippers shot 43.2 percent from the field, including eight of 32 from three point land, but was 14 of 23 at the charity stripe. Lou Willams came off the bench to lead the Clippers in scoring with 23. Los Angeles Clippers are currently 8th in the league in scoring offense with 107.5 points per game, L.A. is 14th in rebounding with 43.8 boards per game and are 20th in assists with 22.1 dimes per game. Lou Willams leads the team in scoring while averaging 23.3 per game, and Danilo Gallinari is finally back on the roster after missing 25 games due to a glute injury, Doc Rivers is happy to add a nice offensive weapon to their struggling offense.
The Brooklyn Nets battled and fought very hard from a 28 point deficit but eventually lost 138-128 in double overtime to the Pelicans at home Saturday night. The Nets should be given a lot of credit because of the effort and grit they showed in the losing effort against the Pelicans, but still ended up with their fifth straight loss. Brooklyn was down by 20 points at the half and by 15 after there quarters before outscoring New Orleans 31-16 in the fourth to force overtime. Eventually a second overtime was needed where Brooklyn got gassed and was outscored 14-4 to pick up the loss. The Nets only shot 37.7 percent from the field while knocking down 21 of 59 three point attempts in the game. Allen Crabbe led the Nets with 28 points in the defeat. Brooklyn is 16th in scoring offense averaging 105.5 per outing and is very good in the rebounding category where they are ranked 4th, nabbing 45.4 boards per game. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has really stepped up since the D’Angelo Russell injury, and is averaging 14.3 points per night which leads all Brooklyn players.

The Clippers were on a nice streak but will have to bounce back after their lob sided loss to Philadelphia. L.A. has a lot of ground to cover if they want to surpass the Pelicans for the final playoff spot in the West. This grueling road trip still has games left in Boston before the All Star Break and then stops in Golden State, Phoenix, and Denver. Brooklyn showed a valiant effort but couldn’t come up with the victory against the Pelicans. The Nets need to really improve from three point land or cut back on attempts: ranking 28th in three point percentage and last in field goal percentage, which is a major reason why they struggle offensively. Look for Clippers to bounce back and get an easy victory.
