In tonight’s inter-conference match-up, the Hornets head to Houston to take on the Rockets. Charlotte looks to bounce back after getting blown out by Milwaukee, while the Rockets try to make it nine straight.
The Rockets are 8-2 in their last ten, and they’ve won eight straight. They are 23-9 at home and 18-8 against the East this year as well. Based on recent trends, things look good for the Rockets tonight. Houston has put the league on notice during their win streak, taking down the Warriors, Celtics, Raptors, and 76ers during that time. They also played Charlotte during the streak and won by five behind a 30 point outing by James Harden and double-doubles from Chris Paul and Clint Capela.
James Harden has continued to be ridiculous, averaging 35.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. The difference makers however, have been the returns of Chris Paul and Clint Capela. Since Paul’s return, the Rockets are 12-5 and CP3 is putting up 15.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.9 rebounds per game. Since Capela came back, the Rockets are 8-1 and Capela is dropping 12.6 points and 11.9 rebounds per contest. All three are healthy tonight, and if they show up along with Eric Gordon who’s been great offensively, they should have an easy time tonight.
The Hornets are just 3-7 in their last ten and 9-22 on the road. Furthermore, they’re 7-16 against the West and lost when they last faced Houston two weeks ago. Kemba Walker was excellent that game with 35 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, and Jeremy Lamb had a 18 point, 14 rebound double-double. The trouble for the Hornets tonight is that they’re relatively banged up. Marvin Williams and Cody Zeller, who were both solid that game, are out tonight. Additionally, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is doubtful, however Lamb is probable.
Frankly for the Hornets to pull out a win or at least cover, they’ll need Kemba to have a nuclear performance. Kemba hasn’t been great however, averaging 23.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists on just 39.0% from the field. Efficiency-wise, he was solid in their last game against Milwaukee, but in the three games before that he shot 6-19, 5-17, and 5-21 from the floor.
If the Rockets perform like they did in game 7 against Golden State last year, the Hornets might have a chance, but given the injuries and their recent performance, it seems unlikely that they’ll win or cover tonight.

ESPN NBA Scores Houston Rockets Vs Charlotte Hornets
The Rockets are red hot, and the Hornets frankly are not. Houston also has the benefit of being healthy and playing on their home-court tonight. Charlotte is rather abysmal on the road, and with two starters likely out, this game likely won’t be close.
Pick: Houston Rockets (-9.5)
