ESPN NBA Picks Los Angeles Clippers vs Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets will travel to la la land to take on the Los Angeles Clippers. The Hornets have continued to stay in mediocrity and they will try to get back to .500 tonight. On the other hand, the Clippers have overachieved their expectations tonight and if that is to continue they will need to win games like tonight.

Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets are 5-5 in their last ten games which perfectley explains how their season has been going so far. At 19-20, they have been floating around .500 all season and they are currently seventh in the east. The Hornets are top ten in the league at points per game at 113 but their defense is spotty at times. Charlotte allows 111.7 points per game which gives their average margin of victory at 1.3 PPG. Their high powered offense is due to the resurgence of Kemba Walker who is averaging 25.4 PPG (11th in league). Cardiac Kemba’s productivity has been the main reason they are contenders this year and they rely on him every night. Charlotte’s second top scorer, Jeremy Lamb (15.3 PPG) has been dealing with a hamstring injury but he is expected to play. The Hornets have been very bad away from Charlotte posting a 5-12 away record and taking a west coast road trip won’t make things any easier.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers are fourth in the western conference standings and they sit just 3.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets for first place. The Clippers play harder than their opponents basically every game and it has given them more success than they had expected this season. The Clippers have been very efficient from the offensive side of the court placing 4th in points per game (115.7). However, they struggle defensively where they rank 24th in the league in points allowed (114.3) which gives them an average profit margin of just 1.4. The Clippers are 6-4 in their last 10 games but they do play very well at home. They have a .684 win percentage (13-6) when in Los Angeles. Tobias Harris has been huge for the LA Clippers’s success leading the team in points per game (21.1) and rebounds per game (8). The Clippers will also come into this game with no team injuries. They will hope to continue their impressive efficiency at home behind their explosive offense.

ESPN SCORES NBA Picks Charlotte Hornets vs Los Angeles Clippers

This matchup should favor the LA Clippers in basically every way. The Hornets really struggle on the road and they play a below average defense. On the other hand, the Clippers play excellent basketball at Staples Center and it is thanks to their high powered offense. I expect a high scoring game tonight, but the Clippers should pull ahead in this one. The Hornets lack a reliable third scorer and Jeremy Lamb is coming off a leg injury. Kemba might not have enough in him to steal one on the west coast. This is the first matchup between the two this season.

Pick: Los Angeles Clippers -6.5
