The Charlotte Hornets cross borders to battle the Toronto Raptors this Sunday. The Hornets ended a three-game homestead 2-1 and went 3-2 in the last 5 games. After beating the Thunder in Oklahoma, the Raptors returned home only to lose the Thunder in the rematch. These teams played each other once before and will play another game each other after this one. Toronto beat the Hornets 127-106 in the first meetings. Toronto still fights to get the #1 seed of the East. Charlotte remains out of the playoffs, only 2.5 games behind #8 seed Miami Heat.

Charlotte beat the Boston Celtics yesterday, after beating the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier in the week. After losing by 6 at the start of the 4th quarter, the Hornets stormed back outscoring the Celtics 35-19. Rookie forward Miles Bridges scored 20 points with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. In the season, he averages, 6.9 points, and 3.9 rebounds. He scored 3 of his 6 three-pointers. In only 17 minutes, Malik Monk led the bench with 13 points, going 3-4 from deep. After a brief stint off the court with an injury, Monk scored 14 with limited minutes the game before. But Kemba Walker led the Hornets to the victory. Walker scored 36 points, with 6 three-pointers, and almost got a triple-double with his 11 rebounds and 9 assists. He also stole twice and committed two turnovers.

Kemba Walker wants to make the playoffs and he plays that way. In the last 5 games, he scored 25.2 points, missed only three FTs. He also only averages 2 turnovers per game. In the last 3 games, he played more than 44 minutes. During his All-Star season, he averages 34.8 minutes, he averages 25.2, 4.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists during the season. The Hornets use him more than any one else and with the dependency Walker resorted to shooting more three-pointers with varying results. His higher 3PAr than last season, his True Shooting% slipped from .572% to .553%. Hornets need to rely more on the growing bench, instead of spending so much of Walker’s energy.

Toronto remains 3 games behind the Milwaukee Bucks for the #1 seed. They beat the Thunder, only to lose to them the next game. In the loss, Kawhi Leonard scored 37 points, 4-5 from deep, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. But the best defense in the league, forced Leonard to commit 8 turnovers. Pascal Siakam scored 25 points, with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. But he committed 7 turnovers. Danny Green scored 6 three-pointers and scored 19.

Toronto committed too many turnovers against the Thunder. But they scored so many points among their top two players. They also play consistently well with only 22 loses in the season. Kemba Walker plays lights out recently and could lead this team to victory. But they rely too heavily on Walker. They need their efficient bench to step up against Leonard and Siakam. But do they have what it takes to beat them on their turf? I say no, I am going with the spread and picking Toronto.

My Pick: Toronto (-10.5)
