The Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32) are coming off a dominant four game series sweep over the Toronto Raptors. After a season full of chaos, the Cavaliers are back where everyone thought they would be at the start of the season, the Eastern Conference Finals. LeBron James is arguably having his best playoff run in his fifteenth year. The most important factor in the Cavs’ success is the play of their role players. James’ teammates provided limited help in the first round against the Pacers, explaining why that series went seven games. Against Toronto, Kyle Korver and JR Smith provided much needed help, shooting a combined 63% from beyond the arc. Kevin Love also came alive in the Raptors series, as he averaged 25 points per game in the last three games. This much-needed help from LeBron’s teammates is a bright sign for the Cavaliers moving forward.
The Boston Celtics (55-27) continued their unlikely run with a quick five game series win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Boston Celtics have been devastated by injuries all year, and yet they still find themselves back in the Eastern Conference Finals. These injuries have given the Celtics’ youth a chance to play and grow as players. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have been phenomenal this postseason, and they both appear to be stars in the making. The surprise, however, has been Terry Rozier. Rozier looks like an everyday starter in this league and more, and he has been at his best in crunch time. In the 4th quarter and overtime, Rozier has shot 56.8% from the field and 56% from beyond the ark, while boasting a 17-1 assist to turnover ratio. The question for Boston will be whether or not these young guns can keep up their impressive pace against LeBron and company.

This will only be the third game all season in which LeBron James has had at least three days of rest. Both of these squads will come out well rested, which could result in multiple teams. Either they will come out looking energized and explosive, or they will come out looking rusty. Brad Stevens has proven he is one of the best coaches in the NBA, and he is the anchor behind this team’s success. LeBron James seems to be on a mission, and with a Kevin Love that seems to have found his confidence, this team could be scary. The Toronto series was definitely a momentum booster for the Cavaliers, and seeing the veterans step up and help James was a promising sign. LeBron is as rested as he has been all year, and he is going to come in looking to make a statement. This will be a tightly-contested, fun game that will eventually result in a Cavaliers victory behind big contributions from JR Smith and Kyle Korver.
