In this late-night Western Conference matchup, the Dallas Mavericks will travel to Denver to take on the Nuggets. Dallas are currently on a six-game losing streak, with their latest loss being against San Antonio at home 112-105. After their horror-show loss at Golden State, the Denver Nuggets blew out the Timberwolves at home 133-107, but have only won two of their last five games. With the number one seed still up for grabs, the Nuggets will attempt to keep the momentum going at home tonight.

The Dallas Mavericks currently sit at the fourteenth spot in the Western Conference, tied with the Memphis Grizzlies and 12 games ahead of last-placed Phoenix Suns. Their last loss came against the San Antonio Spurs Tuesday night at home 112-105, making it their 6th straight loss and 11th loss from twelve games. The problem this time was Rookie of the Year candidate Luka Doncic’s knee strain, which appeared to be the issue as he only scored 12 points with 5/18 from the field (1/9 FT), while giving up a career-high nine turnovers. Jalen Brunson was one of the bright spots, scoring a career high 34 points, while Dwight Powell attained a game-high 7 rebounds. Aging wonder Dirk Nowitzki only needs 27 points to pass Wilt Chamberlain for 6th place on the all-time scoring list and Kristaps Porzingis began practicing with the team 5-on-5 , giving Dallas fans something to look forward to as opposed to playoff contention. Luka Doncic does lead the Mavericks in all major statistical categories, however, with 20.9 PPG on 43.0% shooting, 7.4 RPG, and 5.6 APG.

The Denver Nuggets currently sit at the second spot in the Western conference, with 1.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors and 3 games ahead of both the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets. Only six games separating the number two to eight seeds in the West, every game becomes more-and-more important for the Nuggets to win. After losing four of their last five, they got back on track with a huge 133-107 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the win, Jamal Murray scored a team-high 30 points on 10/16 shooting, while Mason Plumlee dished out a game-high 8 assists and All-Star Nikola Jokic led with 8 rebounds. The good news for the Nuggets is that Doncic is questionable to play with the knee strain for precautionary reasons, so Jokic and the crew will attempt to start a winning streak as the season wanes. The Serbian currently leads the Nuggets in all major statistical categories, with 20.4 PPG, 10.7 RPG, and 7.6 APG.

With Doncic currently listed as questionable with a leg injury and no real desire to reach the playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks are aiming to build their team for next season and hitting the jackpot in the draft, while signing another max player if possible. With that in mind, the Denver Nuggets are looking ahead to the playoffs, attempting to improve their position while digging themselves out of their latest slump. They have lost 4 of their last 6 games, but will turn the corner and come back with a win tonight and swallow the points to cover the spread.

Pick: Denver Nuggets (-11)
