The Golden State Warriors have avoided elimination and defeat in the playoffs without Kevin Durant. In game 5 agains the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant went down due to injury and it changed the landscape of the series. However, Golden State manage to beat the Rockets in game 6 without Durant.
The Warriors bench was key in them winning game 1 agains the Blazers. Quin Cook gave the Warriors major minutes. However, he cannot be counted on to play as well for game 2 for the Warriors.
The Warriors narrowly pulled of the win against the Blazers due to their performance in the Fourth quarter . The Golden State Warriors outscored the Blazers by 16 points in the fourth quarter. Stephen Curry also dropped 36 points in the game and Draymond Green played sensational defense against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Golden State Warriors are demonstrating that even without Kevin Durant they are still a championship quality team. The Warriors still have the greatest backcourt in the NBA and a defensive player of the Year in Draymond Green. Moreover, the Warriors role players have significant playoff experience and give the Warriors major minutes.
How the Portland Trail Blazers adjust offensively in game 2 will determine if they have a chance in this series. Even the Houston Rockets did not seem to have an answer for stopping Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. The Warriors will continue need help from their bench if they are going to beat the Blazers four games.
Game Two is going to be tough, however, Golden State is playing at home and has a certain edge going into the game.
