The Indiana pacers come to American Airlines Arena, fresh off loses against Houston and Philadelphia. Poor shooting has been the key to their undoing with the Pacers shooting 39.4% and 25.8% from the field and behind the arc respectively. Their defense has been solid, though not enough to offset the sub-par shooting. Last year’s Most Improved Player, Victor Oladipo, has been great for the team, proving that his season last year was no fluke. He’s been putting up a team high 24.1 points per game and scored 36 in a valiant effort against the Sixers last game. He’s got his hands in everything, also leading the team in steals, assists, and minutes played. His three point shot has been off the past three games, shooting only 31% from deep. He seems to be taking twice as much shots from range in these games, going from about 6 a game to 12 a game. On the other end of the floor he’s been extraordinary. He’s one of the few players that handle a heavy load defensively without it affecting his offensive game. Domas Sabonis, the 2016 No.11 pick, has been playing brilliant basketball as well, averaging a team high 8.9 rebounds a game. He’s also scoring 14.1 a game on 65.6% shooting.
The Miami heat are on a two game win streak after losing three straight before. Led by a stunning performance from Hassan Whiteside, they dominated the Spurs. Whiteside finished with 29 points and 20 boards and 9 blocks. Yes, you read that right, 9 of them. Though the Wade lacking Heat shot poorly, they held the Spurs to just 33% from the field. They also destroyed the Spurs in the paint, scoring 46 of their 95 point from inside. Three other Heat player were in double figures with Wayne Ellington putting up 20, Justise Winslow with 16 and Josh Richardson with 14. The Miami Heat are performing better than expected beating expected playoff teams like Detroit, Portland and San Antonio. The Heat are beating the big teams on the boards, averaging 12.7 offensive rebounds a game – 2nd in the league. The stellar offensive rebounding is why the Heat is a league high in second chance points. It’s the small things that make a big difference.

On the Surface, they Pacers do look like the better team, although I fully expect the Heat to run away with this one. If Whiteside plays like he’s been playing, the Pacers will have no answer. The Heat are among the top teams in 3 pointers made. They don’t call the three “The Great Equalizer” for nothing. Their dominance on the boards and their three point shooting will put them over the Pacers.
PICK: Miami Heat -5
