The San Antonio Spurs enter Saturday night’s matchup coming off an emotional victory over the Toronto Raptors to extend their winning streak to three. The Spurs have been one of the best teams in the league since December 1 leading the NBA in offensive rating and 4th in defensive rating in addition to being first net rating. DeMar DeRozan is coming off of his first career triple double scoring 21 points against his former team to go along with 14 rebounds and 11 assists. DeRozan is currently having a career year as a distributor with 6.4 assists which leads the team to go along with his 22.8 points per game which is also a team high. Bryn Forbes went 6/7 from beyond the 3-point line and is currently shooting 43% from three on five attempts a game which is 11th in the NBA.
The Memphis Grizzlies have struggled of late losing to the Nets at home 108-100 which is their fourth consecutive loss and drops them to 2-8 in their last ten games. The Grizzlies will hope the acquisition of Justin Holiday will help as he looks to make his team debut and is averaging a career high seven three-point attempts per game and made 35.9% of them and in his three seasons in Chicago he has shot 36.5% on five attempts per game. Memphis is currently sitting three games out of the final playoff position in the West and is just 8-11 on the road this season. The Grizzlies also have struggled over the past month going 5-10 in December with 7 of those 11 losses coming on the road.

This will be the second time these two teams have met this season and the Spurs will be looking for revenge as the Grizzlies took the first game on November 21st as Marc Gasol hit two free throws to win the game that ended a seven-game win streak for San Antonio at home against Memphis. The Grizzlies will be at a disadvantage as they will be on the second night of a back to back. Memphis played all five starters over 30 minutes against the Nets and should be tired especially as Mike Conley has been dealing with left shoulder soreness and was questionable for Friday’s game. The Spurs should win this game going away as they have shot the ball better from deep and Memphis has struggled defensively as opponents have shot on average over 40% from 3 in their last three games in addition they are ranked 22nd in the league in defensive three-point percentage for the season. The Spurs are at home and could start a bit slow but look for a big 2nd half as they wear down the Grizzlies and get a comfortable victory at home to extend their win streak to four.
