Miami Heat (29-12) vs San Antonio Spurs (17-23)
NBA: Sunday, January 19, 2020 3:00 PM (AT&T Center)
ML: Heat -120, Spurs +100, Over/Under 222 (MyBookie)
Odds: Heat -1.5 (MyBookie)
The Miami Heat dominated against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, winning 115-108. Jimmy Butler earned himself a double-double on the night with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Bam Adebayo came close to a double-double with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Only 2 players on the team didn’t earn at least 10 points for the game and had a team +/- rating of 7.
The San Antonio Spurs were able to take a lead against the Atlanta Hawks in the third quarter on Friday, then they blew it in the fourth quarter, losing 121-120. Dejounte Murray was one of the lone bright spots for the Spurs, earning a double-double on the night with 13 points and 12 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan came close to a triple-double, with 25 points, 9 assists, and 9 rebounds. Only 4 players were able to earn at least 10 points on the night and had a team +/- rating of -1.
For the most part, the Miami Heat would be one of the best teams in the NBA, having almost no weak area on the team. The Heat are ranked 13th in point per game, 5th in field goal percentage, 2nd in 3-pointer percentage, 16th in rebounds per game, 11th in assists per game, 13th in personal fouls per game, 5th in personal fouls drawn, and 10th in +/- rating. However, that’s until you realize the Heat have a big turnover issue. The Heat are ranked 27th in turnovers per game, 22nd in steals per game, 28th in blocks per game. At some point, that is going to bite them later in the season.
Despite the Spurs being statistically one of the better teams in the NBA, they just can’t find ways to win games. Apart from steals per game, the Spurs are at least in the top 15 for every major category. Yet they have the 6th worst away record in the NBA, and only a measly 11-10 home record. I’m just don’t understand how the Spurs keep losing.
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Miami’s last 5 games this season.
Miami are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games against an opponent in the Western conference.
Miami are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games.
San Antonio are 0-5 SU in their last 5 games against an opponent in the Southeast division.
The total has gone OVER in 6 of San Antonio’s last 9 games against Miami.
The total has gone OVER in 7 of San Antonio’s last 8 games at home.
The only reason the Spurs have a chance is because they’re playing at home. That isn’t going to stop me from picking the Heat to demoralize the Spurs early and win this game handedly. Expect Jimmy Butler to go off today and decimate the Spurs at home.
