The Pelicans are coming off of a hard earned, double-overtime win on Saturday night against the Brooklyn Nets. They hope to add to the Pistons losing streak in an easier manner on Monday night.

The Pelicans last win did not come easily, a 20-point halftime lead quickly vanished, but the team still escaped Brooklyn with a 138-128 win. Anthony Davis put the team on his back with 44 points, 17 rebounds, six steals and three blocks, all while playing an astounding 49 minutes. The Pelicans are fighting for a lower-seed in the western conference playoff picture and have dropped games against teams fighting for a playoff spot similar to them. The team dropped games to the Timberwolves, Jazz and 76ers before snapping their skid against the Nets. Nikola Mirotic has made an immediate impact on the Pelicans since being acquired from the Bulls at the trade deadline. In four games with New Orleans, Mirotic is averaging 14 points and 9 rebounds and dropped 21 points with 16 rebounds in Saturday nights win. A win tonight for the Pelicans would sweep the season series against the Pistons, winning the first matchup 112-109 back on January 8th, in New Orleans. Anthony Davis will look for a similar performance in this game, he dropped 30 points in three quarters in last meeting with the Pistons before leaving the game with an ankle injury.

The Pistons are coming off an ugly loss to the Atlanta Hawks Saturday night, a team destined for the lottery. The 118-115 loss was the Pistons second straight game they’ve dropped, this coming after a five-game winning streak. Griffin contributed 23 points in the losing effort, but struggled shooting from the field, connecting on just 7 of his 21 shots. Point guard Jameer Nelson and small forward James Ennis III made their team debuts last game. Nelson tallied six points and five assists in 18 minutes of action while Ennis III posted 14 points, four rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes. While Nelson saw a good amount of playing time, both these guys can be expected to play a role in the Pistons moving forward as the team looks to make a push for the playoffs.

The New Orleans Pelicans had a big loss when DeMarcus Cousins went down for the season. Anthony Davis is good enough to carry the team, but the Pistons are more well rounded and have more than just one option to go to on offense. Pistons get back on track with a win tonight against the Pelicans.

League rules refs got it right on Buddy Hield last night. #Pistons

Seriously doubt #Wizards trade him. Seriously doubt #Pistons could outbid others. I used that as an example of a guy who would provide immediate impact vs. a market going gaga over Dennis Smith, which would be a developmental move more than likely.

That’s why it’s tough call. Want to field a good team around Blakd and Reggie probably helps that more than a pick. But #Pistons definitely need to build assets. Probably do it for a first if someone offers.

Reggie turns down an open 3 to dribble into traffic. #Pistons trying to hold on with 3.4 seconds left. 1-point lead.

Trail Blazers erupt for 42 pts in 2Q, build 21-point lead en route to convincing 128-112 home win over #Pelicans. Davis 27 pts, Holiday 20 pts, Randle 19 pts, Moore 17 pts, 4/5 on treys:

Don't look now but #Pelicans were within 107-99 and still 7:30 left, after E'Twaun Moore gets a putback score off his own miss. McCollum answers with a friendly roll for an and-one

Moore was one of the few #Pelicans players who shot better during the '18 playoffs in the Golden State series than vs. Portland, but he's off to a promising start in Moda Center. Moore scored 17 pts Wednesday vs. Warriors

#Pelicans shootaround update presented by @HUBInsurance, Trio of Moore, Mirotic, Miller coming off excellent shooting games Wednesday; transition and slowing Portland's guards one defensive focus:

Nikola Mirotic on keys for #Pelicans: "At the start of games, we need to have more energy, more urgency, more effort. And closing better. That’s one issue we’ve had this year, and we’re trying to fix that. When we play defensively with energy, our offense is also better."
