ML: Magic -145, Timberwolves +125, Over/Under 234 (MyBookie)
Odds: Magic -2.5 (MyBookie)
The Orlando Magic were obliterated by the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, losing 107-130. Nikola Vucevic keeps proving that he is earning his paycheck with a double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Unfortunately for Vucevic, the rest of the team didn’t show up and were outplayed in nearly every category.
The Minnesota Timberwolves actually beat the Bulls on Wednesday, winning 115-108. Naz Reid earned a double-double on the night with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Six different players were able to earn double digit points on the night with five of them earning at least 12 points. The Timberwolves were able to outperform the Bulls in nearly every way on the night.
The Magic are one of the last few teams in the NBA that has a stout defense. The Magic are ranked an astounding 28th in points, 28th in field goal percentage, and 26th in 3-pointer percentage, yet they only on average lose by 1.6 points. That might be thanks to their cause turnovers while not making turnovers, ranking 2nd in turnovers, 7th in steals, and 4th in blocks. They should have no problem keeping the 8th seed in the east.
This Timberwolves team should be able to muster up at least 25 wins at this point. Instead, they haven’t even won 10 games at home or away. Their ranked 10th in points, 3rd in steals, and 4th in blocks, far better than the teams that they share a similar record with. But they won’t win many more game since they still rank 27th in field goal percentage, 28th in 3-pointer percentage, 24th in turnovers. Despite them performing better than most terrible teams, they still lose on an average of 4 points. How unlucky can one team be that isn’t the Warriors.
Orlando are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
The total has gone OVER in 9 of Orlando’s last 9 games.
Orlando are 14-6 SU in their last 20 games against Minnesota.
Minnesota are 4-16 SU in their last 20 games.
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Minnesota’s last 7 games against Orlando.
Minnesota are 2-11 ATS in their last 13 games at home.
Seriously, the Timberwolves should be able to at least be barely in the playoff race with how they are statistically. Instead, they’re win percentage in on par with the Hawks, Knicks, and Cavs. If it was the wolves versus any of those teams, I would say they have a chance. Unfortunately, the Timberwolves are facing a somewhat competent team. The Magic will have no problem winning today.
