Its a Sunday matinee game between the four seeded Portland Trail Blazers and the eleventh seeded Dallas Mavericks. Portland has won four of their last five games. C.J. McCollum has been playing well the last threes, averaging 30 plus points, and even getting a triple-double. Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been playing decent basketball lately. Dallas is coming off a 15 point loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, but have actually played well at home recently, including a close overtime loss to the Toronto Raptors. This is the third meeting of this season between these teams and it’s tied at one apiece.
The Portland Trail Blazers have had a few good wins lately against some elite teams. The Trail Blazers are 7-3 in their last ten games and won by double digits a few times. In their last game against the Spurs, the Blazers had six players in double figures. Damian Lillard went for 24 points and McCollum had 30. The Portland backcourt has been lighting it up and that’s why this team is moving up the standings. Now, last time the Blazers played against the Mavericks, they came out on top, in a close overtime game at home. Portland blew a ten point halftime lead and just barely won by three. Jusuf Nurkić only had ten points in that game, but will try to go for 20 plus this time around.
The Dallas Mavericks are 5-5 in their last ten games and four and a half games out of the eighth spot in the West. Luka Dončić has been the top Maverick in the last three games. Dončić had a triple-double of 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and 19 points against the Charlotte Hornets. He also went for 35 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In their last game against the Bucks, the Mavs put up an amazing effort against the best team in the NBA. Dallas was down 13 at the half and made an okay comeback attempt in the second half. You can see this team slowly building confidence and maybe they can make a run for the eighth seed. Back on December fourth, the Mavs beat the Trail Blazers 111-102 at home. Dallas built a 14 point lead in the first quarter and just matched Portland the rest of the way. Of course, Dončić had a good game then and will do the same again.

So, who will win the round three matchup between these two teams? Portland has one of the best back courts in the league and they have played consistently well all season. Dallas has one of the best rookies in the game in Luka Dončić and they pretty much traded most of their starting lineup to the New York Knicks. Portland has only lost five games in 2019 and it’s because everyone is doing their part. Dallas will need to start well and get the threes going like they did in their last game to keep up with Portland. Trail Blazers win 110-105 and cover the spread.
