It will be a Texas vs East coast showdown between the Spurs and Celtics. The Spurs have been the best team in the NBA over the last few weeks and they recently had a nine game winning streak. San Antonio has lost two games in a row and sit in eighth, in the tight Western Conference. The Celtics sit in fifth in the Eastern Conference and are battling the Indiana Pacers for fourth in the standings. Boston is just one game back of the Pacers and they would like to get home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. At the moment, Boston looks like they will stay in fifth because they have been playing average basketball and have gone 5-5 in their last ten games. Both these teams need this game to help out their playoff seeding and that’s why the spread is so close.

Its truly amazing that the Spurs have made the playoffs 22 seasons in a row and that coach Gregg Popovich has only had a losing record for 65 days since the 1997-1998 season. That’s insane domination right there and the Spurs for the first time all season are playing with that Spurs edge of excellence. During their nine game winning streak, San Antonio beat some elite teams in front of them like the Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, and the Milwaukee Bucks. All of the sudden, the Spurs found themselves in the tight race for fifth in the West. However, the team just dropped games to the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets, and now sit in eighth, but only a game back of three teams. In both of the games, the Spurs had some big first half deficits to try and come back from and just fell short. The shooting was there from the starters and the bench, but the runs just hurt them early. They just need to start shooting well early and get the threes flowing again.

The Celtics have nine games left in the season and really need to start playing better. They have the talent to play better basketball and this is a good time to start showing it. Three of their last nine games are against non playoff teams and two of these final games will be showdowns against the team they are chasing in the Pacers. Luckily, Indiana hasn’t played great lately either and the home court could be up for grabs. Boston has lost three games in a row and two were against some of the toughest teams in the league. However, they just lost to the below average Charlotte Hornets. The Celtics had a few good quarters, but were out scored by 16 in the fourth. Boston had five players in double figures and Kyrie Irving led the way with 31 points. For the past five games, Irving has led the team in scoring and getting at least 30 points. Right now the Celtics need their bench to get going and get some quality wins.

So, who will win the second and final meeting between these two teams? Both these teams need to finish the season strong and get the seeding that they want for the playoffs. The Spurs can still finish fifth in the West and possibly matchup up with the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round. With the way the Spurs have playing in the month of March, they can definitely pull off the upset. Meanwhile, Boston has a little bit of a tough schedule to finish off the season. It will be a good test for them and they really need to start playing better at home. They are 5-5 in their last ten games at home and home court won’t me anything to them in the playoffs if they play that average. The Spurs beat the Celtics back on December 31st, 120-111. Both teams shot well and the Spurs beat the Celtics from three point land. San Antonio is still playing great basketball and they will win 110-105.
