The Utah Jazz play host to the San Antonio Spurs tonight as they look to continue their winning ways. The Jazz are currently on a 9 game winning streak as they inch closer to a playoff spot trailing only the New Orleans Pelicans for the 8th spot by 1.5 games. The Utah Jazz will look towards rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell and solid big man, Rudy Gobert to lead the way. Mitchell has made a claim on the rookie of the year award as he leads the Jazz in scoring with 19.4 points per game including 1.45 steals per game as well. Gobert has been a great asset to this team as he averages close to a double-double with 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in blocks with 2.4 per game.

The San Antonio Spurs have been dealing with injuries to all of their key players basically. Kawhi Leonard has played in only 9 games this year with a quad injury. Tony Parker has been dealing with back issues. Now the Spurs have to sit Lamarcus Aldridge who is suffering with a sore right knee. That means they will look for a team effort from the likes of Manu Ginobli, Pau Gasol, and Patty Mills if the others remain unavailable. Ginobli is averaging 9.4 points per game, while Mills is averaging 9.6 points per game. Gasol is averaging 10.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. It is not going to be easy tonight.

Current Trends courtesy of CTS365:

  • San Antonio is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games
  • San Antonio is 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games against the Jazz on the road
  • Utah is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games
  • Utah is 4-2 SU in their last 6 games against the Spurs

Normally I equate the San Antonio Spurs to the New England Patriots in that no matter how old the stars get, they somehow manage to win. In fact, on the season, the ageless Spurs are 35-22 and rank 3rd in the Western Conference. However, tonight they face a surging Utah Jazz team that has won 9 straight games including a 120-11 victory against the Spurs just 5 games ago. They also head into this game against the Jazz without several key players including Kawhi Leonard and Lamarcus Aldridge. While the Jazz did lose Rodney Hood to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a trade, Donovan Mitchell has stepped up BIG. Therefore, I am taking the Utah Jazz -4.5 tonight.  Good luck and as always, remember to read our other free NBA picks at www.coverthespread365.com ! You will not be sorry!!!

The reigning DPOY will tell you: Defense is more than great blocks.

But Rudy had some pretty great blocks this season.

In 1989, Mark Eaton had 14 (FOURTEEN) blocks in a single game against the Spurs—tied for third most in an NBA game since the @NBA began recording blocks during the '73 season.

Joe is our mathematician, so his approach relies on interpreting numbers. If baseball were Poker, you could say he’s a master at counting cards. Joe understands that statistics create patterns, which in turn foreshadow probabilities. His application of mathematical strategies has proven to be an invaluable asset for bettors. It’s not always about hitting 21, but rather always winning against the House.
