The Kings clash with the Philadelphia 76ers tonight in what should be a Friday night brawl. This is a highly unanticipated and high stakes matchup. Last season, the Kings swept the 76ers in their regular season series.
The Kings lately have been performing poorly lately and need a win tonight. However, despite their recent performance, they have held onto the 9th position in the Western Conference and are fighting to get in the playoffs. This season the Kings have pulled major wins against the Lakers, Thunders, Grizzlies, and 76ers. When the Kings play well, they can compete with any team in the NBA.
The Kings are one the best offensive teams in the NBA and are the best fourth quarter team in the NBA. Currently, the King’s bench is ranked 7th in the NBA in points per game. The Kings rely on the depth of their team to win games. The Kings have eight players averaging over 9.4 points per game this season. Beating the Kings requires more than stopping one player. And this is what makes the Kings such a tough opponent.
However, the Kings remain a below average defensive team. They are 29th in the NBA in the number of three point attempts they allow opponents. And they rank 26th in the Number of points per game they allow opponents to score.
The Philadelphia 76ers have been playing well lately and Jimmy Butler appears to be a good fit for the team. For the 2018-19 season the expectations for the Philadelphia 76ers were high to start the season after Lebron James left the Eastern Conference. However, many teams in the Eastern Conference have made significant changes to their and the Eastern Conference is historically competitive right now.
Despite the Philadelphia 76ers have one of the worst benches in the league, they are still an offensive juggernaut. With a starting line-up featuring Jimmy Butler, Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, JJ Reddick, the Philadelphia 76ers are the only team in the NBA, besides the Warriors and Celtics, to feature 3 All-stars in their lineup. The 76ers are top six in the NBA in APG, RPG, and PPG. Joel Embiid is having a breakout seasons and is clearly one of the best centers in the NBA.
However, the Philadelphia 76ers have struggled defensively this season. In fact, they are 8th in the NBA in number of points their opponents score per game. This is shocking considering that they are one of the top 4 teams in the NBA in total rebounds. In some games, the 76ers just do not play with a sense of urgency to be effective defensively. However, the 76ers average over 114 PPG and many teams cannot outscore them despite their bad defense. And with the addition of Tobias Harris, the 76ers have gotten even better offensively.
The 76ers are the first team since the warriors to feature 4 all-stars. The Starting lineup of the JJ Reddick, Jimmy Butler, Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Tobias Harris maybe the biggest and best defensive starting line in the NBA. And with a bench featuring Boban, T.J. McConnell, James Ennis III, and Mike Scott, the 76ers are completely stacked.
This Tuesday night matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings should be interesting considering that both teams are so potent offensively and good at rebounding the basketball. To win games, the kings rely on the depth of their roster.
Historically, the 76ers have struggled against the Kings. The Kings are 4-1 in their last 5 match-ups against the 76ers. And at the Wells Fargo Center, the Kings are 3-1 in their last 4 match-ups. However, for these match-ups the 76ers did not have Tobias Harris. And Earlier this season the Kings beat the 76ers without Tobias Harris and JJ Reddick.
This season Kings has generally struggle on the road and have lost over 60% of their road games; many of these games were to less formidable opponents than the 76ers. On the other hand, the 76ers are a bear of an opponent and have won over 75% of their games at home this season. The Wells Fargo arena is just a hard place to win in. Period. At home this year, they have beat the likes of the Raptors, Spurs, and Rockets. And Joel Embiid is back and healthy.
I disagree with the experts and I expect 76ers to be too tough of an opponent for the Kings on the road. I predict that the 76ers are going to pull off an upset and walk away with a hard fought win at home!
