The Washington Wizards might be the most unbalanced team in the entire NBA. They have one of the best offenses in the league, but their defense might be the worst. The one-sided nature of this squad has contributed to their 7-15 record on the year. The Wizards are currently ranked 12th in the Eastern Conference standings and 4th in the Southeast Division. Washington is already 9.5 games back of the division-leading Miami Heat. They are just 1.5 games ahead of the 6-17 Atlanta Hawks for last place in the Southeast. Their recent play hasn't inspired much confidence in the fans that they can turn their season around. The Wizards have gone 2-7 in their last 9 games, winning just 1 of their last 6.
Part of the problem with the Washington Wizards is their lack of health. John Wall is getting paid $37.8 million this season, but he's not expected to play this year because of his torn left Achilles. Thomas Bryant (foot), Jordan McRae (finger), C.J. Miles (wrist), and Isaiah Thomas (calf) are also out for the time being. The Wizards are putting a huge burden on SG Bradley Beal to get wins. The 26-year-old leads the team with 28.0 points per game. He ranks 5th in the entire NBA in terms of scoring. Beal is also 12th in the NBA with 7.0 assists per game and a 31.0% usage percentage. Rookie Rui Hachimura has been a reliable asset for Washington, starting all 22 games and averaging 14.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Davis Bertans is having another awesome year from a shooting perspective. Bertans has hit 45.2% of his 3-point attempts this season. He ranks in the NBA's top 10 in 3-point %, effective field goal %, offensive rating, and offensive box plus/minus.
The Charlotte Hornets are still trying to navigate life without Kemba Walker. In the first 25 games of the post-Kemba era, the Hornets have gone 9-16. They currently place 10th in the Eastern Conference standings. The Hornets are 12.5 games back of the 1st-place Milwaukee Bucks, but just 3 games behind the 8th-place Orlando Magic. Charlotte is in 3rd place in the Southeast Division, 9 games behind the division-leading Miami Heat. They are a half game ahead of the Washington Wizards for 3rd in the Southeast. It has been tough for Charlotte to gain traction after their 3 game win streak in the 2nd week of the season. That streak brought them to 4-3 through 7 games. Since then, the Hornets have gone 5-13. This includes winning just 1 of their last 5 games.
The replacements for Kemba Walker have been pretty productive on the offensive end. Devonte' Graham has emerged as the #1 point guard for the Hornets. Graham has averaged 18.8 points per game in his time on the floor. He also leads the team with 7.8 assists per game. Devonte' Graham ranks 6th in the NBA in assists per game and 7th in assist percentage (37.4%). Offseason signing Terry Rozier plays PG when Graham is off the floor and shooting guard when Graham is on the floor. Rozier ranks 2nd on the team in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game. He ranks 2nd on the team with 4.2 assists per game and 1st with 1.2 steals per game. Cody Zeller is the leading rebounder on the team, grabbing 7.6 rebounds per game. Zeller also contributes 11.3 points per game.
