The Detroit Pistons will host the Washington Wizards in an Eastern conference matchup. The Wizards are struggling to win games without some of their best players available. But, they did make a trade which gives them some youth and energy they didn’t have before. The Wizards traded Otto Porter Jr. (12.9 ppg 5.5 rpg 1.9 apg) to the Bulls for Jabari Parker (14.2 ppg 6.3 rpg 2.4 apg) and Bobby Portis (14.6 ppg 7.5 rpg 1.5 apg). The Wizards also traded Markieff Morris (11.5 ppg 5.1 rpg 1.8 apg) to the Pelicans for Wesley Johnson (4.0 ppg 2.0 rpg 0.6 apg). These three additions should really help the Wizards as they try to make a playoff push in the aftermath of the season ending John Wall achilles injury. The Wizards mainly made their roster moves to save money while also trying to improve the team.

The Pistons also made some deals at the trade deadline sending Reggie Bullock (11.9 ppg 2.8 rpg 2.5 apg) to the Lakers for guard Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (3.3 ppg 0.9 rpg 0.9 apg) and a second round pick. They also picked up guard Wayne Ellington (8.4 ppg 1.9 rpg 1.2 apg) off waivers. These two additions should help bolster the Pistons’ outside shooting. The Pistons also traded forward Stanley Johnson (7.3 ppg 3.6 rpg 1.2 apg) to the Bucks for big man Thon Maker (4.6 ppg 2.7 rpg 0.5 apg). Johnson ended up on the Pelicans as it became a three team trade. The Bucks landed Nikola Mirotic in the deal. Thon Maker is an interesting young prospect who could end up being a great pick up for the Pistons.

The Pistons are currently the 8th seed, while the Wizards are in the 11th spot, but only a few games out of the playoff picture. Bradley Beal (25.0 ppg 5.1 rpg 5.2 apg) has been their best player and is the main reason why the Wizards still have a chance at making the postseason. The Pistons have more talent than the Wizards, but the inconsistent guard play has cost them too many games despite having an elite front court with Blake Griffin (26.1 ppg 8.1 rpg 5.3 apg) and Andre Drummond (17.1 ppg 14.9 rpg 1.2 apg). Every game is important for the Pistons as they look to move up from 8th in the Eastern conference standings.

ESPN NBA Pick Washington Wizards vs. Detroit Pistons

The Pistons are coming off a Friday night home win over the New York Knicks, 120-103. Drummond had 29 points and 20 rebounds in the win. The Pistons are 5-5 in their last 10 games. One of those losses came against the Wizards on the road, 101-87. Trevor Ariza lead the team with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the win. The Pistons will need to focus their defensive attention on Ariza and Beal in order to win comfortably. The Wizards are 4-6 in their last 10 games. The Wizards coming off a 134-125 Saturday night road win over the Chicago Bulls. Beal lead the team with 31 points in the win. The new additions also contributed, with Jabari Parker scoring 20, Bobby Portis with 10, and Wesley Johnson with 14 points. These additions give the Wizards some quality depth coming off their bench. This should be a close game, as the Wizards should continue to play inspired ball. The Pistons are healthy, while the Wizards are missing Dwight Howard, Tomas Satoransky, John Wall, and Troy Brown Jr.

Pick: Wizards +6
