#3 Duke Blue Devils vs #2 North Carolina Tar Heels

NCAA Basketball: Friday, March 15, 2019, at 9:00 PM EST, Spectrum Center

Line: Duke -3

Two teams, both with a chance of grabbing and potentially being an one seed in this year NCAA Tournament, go to battle as the Duke Blue Devils take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the ACC Tournament Semifinals. This is the third matchups between the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels with Tar Heels taking the first two games. The Blue Devils will be getting back forward Zion Williamson, who was injured in the first thirty seconds of the first matchup and miss the second matchup between the teams. He could be a huge factor in determining which team could go home with the victory and get them a step closer to being an one seed. Without further ado, let’s jump into this game.

Duke Blue Devils:

The Blue Devils come into this matchup with a record of 27-5 including a 14-4 record inside ACC Play. The Blue Devils had been inside the AP Top 5 all season, ranking anywhere from first to fourth. Led by the legendary Coach K, Duke was able to land the top three recruits in the 2018 Recruiting class and boy, that class had been special. No one can’t get enough forward Zion Williamson who took the world by storm just over a year ago. Williamson has dunked, blocked, and shot his way up to being the number one prospect in the upcoming NBA Draft. Alongside Williamson is forwards RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish, both of whom could also go top five in the upcoming NBA Draft. You can’t forget about Point Guard Tre Jones who has been one of the best playmakers in terms of assists to turnover ratio and defending. In the first matchup against the Tar Heels, Williamson, unfortunately, went down with a knee injury and Tar Heels was able to jump on the Blue Devils and grab the victory. They also beat the Blue Devils again inside Cameron Stadium. This time, with Zion being 100 percent back, the Blue Devils look for revenge as they look to beat the Tar Heels and try to grab a one number seed in the NCAA Tournament.

North Carolina Tar Heels:

There hasn’t been a team that has been hottest than North Carolina lately. Winner of eight straight, which put them in first in the Atlantic Coast Division of the ACC, and hold a record 27-5, North Carolina come into the game on a roll. The Tar Heels are also 17-2 against ACC competition with losses coming against Louisville and Virginia. This is the 51st time the Tar Heels that the Tar Heels are playing in the ACC Semifinals. In their previous fifty matchups, they hold a 35-15 record. Guards Cameron Johnson and Coby White and senior forward, Luke Maye, lead the Tar Heels in scoring. Maye and Johnson were both a huge factor in the Tar Heels victory in their first matchup against the Blue Devils. They ended the night respectively with 30(Maye) and 26(Johnson) points.

I can tell you that this game is going to be an absolute classic. With Zion back, I do believe this flip the momentum into Duke’s favor. The Blue Devils open this game as the favorite and while the Tar Heels has been extremely hot as of late, I’m going to with Duke on this one. Expect both teams to score in the eighty.
