The ACC this year has not been as strong as it has been in the past. The likes of Duke, North Carolina,Virginia, and Florida State have been holding down the fort. However, there are some respectable teams such as Louisville, North Carolina State, and Syracuse that have been right behind these powerhouses, climbing up the ranks…adding onto their resumes to prepare for March. On the other hand, to really standout, especially in preparing for March, conference play is truly key to boosting resumes while gaining an edge on other ACC teams.

Syracuse Orange (11-5)

While Syracuse’s 11-4 record obviously seems like a winning record to the naked eye when in reality, they have not really been playing winning basketball or the way they should have been playing to begin the season. The Orange men have been dealing with injuries all season, with Frank Howard, a key contributor, leading the team in assists (3.7) missing four games to start the season. However, they are almost at full health, and it couldn’t have come at a better time than conference play. Syracuse defeated Notre Dame and Clemson to begin conference play at 2-0. Jim Boeheim’s famous 2-3 zone along with cohesive effort, like always, has kept them together so far and they are rounding into form as they are going for their fifth consecutive win against Georgia Tech. In the previous matchup, Georgia Tech edge the Orange men with a 55-51 victory. The Orange are looking to avenge this defeat with a victory to continue perfect conference play.

Georgia Tech (9-6)

Georgia Tech has the potential to be a better team than what their play or record indicates. It has been a roller coaster for the Yellow Jackets as they have been aiming for consistency all season. They have no beaten any ranked opponents this season. Georgia, in-state opponent as well as Wake Forest to begin conference play has been the only respectable opponents that the Yellow Jackets has defeated so far. Today’s matchup against the Syracuse Orange is a true test for Georgia Tech as they look to add onto their resume for March. With a veteran coach in Josh Pastner, the Yellow Jackets will always be prepared to compete as they look forward to their matchup with the Orange. However, similar to the Orange, they will also need to really provide an offensive balance, with Jose Alvarado and Brandon Alston lead the charge in addition to disciplined but aggressive  defense to defeat the Orange.

Both teams play in a similar fashion. They are both tough defensively. Neither team is dynamic offensively. However, they do play very hard on both sides of the ball. Both teams have been playing with inconsistent chemistry. On the other hand, Syracuse has been riddled with injuries, something that has contributed to their chemistry while Georgia Tech has not had that problem but has struggled more with inconsistent play. Syracuse has rolling with four straight victories, including a 2-0 record to begin conference play because of the arrival of full health.

Pick: Over 127
